Aeta Jardine (20 October 1886 - 4 February 1969) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

Life[edit]

Her father was Charles Kennedy Jardine (1 October 1848 - 5 May 1902) from Maybole in Ayrshire. He became a printer. He worked for the British Government in British Guiana, now Guyana. He was the proprietor of the Demerera Daily Chronicle newspaper. On his death his estate was valued at £5953, 6 shillings and 8 pence.

Her mother was Bridget Hannigan Semple (27 November 1851 - 27 May 1920) from Glasgow. Charles and Bridget married on 11 February 1875 in Georgetown, Demerara-Mahaica, British Guinea, now Guyana.

Aeta Jeffrey Jardine was born in Georgetown, Guyana on 20 October 1886. She was one of their five children.

Her sister Bridget Semple Jardine, known as Jet Jardine, also became an artist. Both sisters stayed together throughout their life.

She died on 4 February 1969. Her usual address was at 148 Havelock Road, Brighton.
