Life[edit]

Her father Hector John Macaulay (1824 - 17 November 1896) was born in Quilon [now Kollam], India.[3] His father Kenneth Macaulay (19 December 1780 - 2 February 1841) was an employee of the East India Company, being a doctor at one of their infirmaries. Kenneth was either born in Scotland or London; his Scottish father Hector Macaulay (14 May 1749 - 1815) marrying Ann Hake in London in 1776.[4]

Hector John Macaulay became an assistant to the Commissariat General in Malta.

Her mother Mary (c. 1819 - 1892) was born in Quebec.[5]

Mary Harriet Macaulay, known as Kate, was born in Malta in 1849. She claimed descent from Scotland, probably through her grandfather Kenneth, but certainly from his father. She never married.[6]
