Jaime Rafael David de Lange (born April 24, 1996) is a Filipino Professional downhill skateboarder, competing locally and internationally. He is the first athlete to win a gold medal in an Olympic sub-committee, namely the SouthEast Asian Games [1] in 2019, for the sport of Downhill Skateboarding.

He is currently the captain of the Philippine National Downhill Skateboard team.

Education[edit]

de Lange is a AB Development Studies graduate of De La Salle University-Manila [1]. He graduated from PAREF Southridge School [2] in 2013.

Early skate career[edit]

de Lange started skating competitively in 2012. His first career win was first place at the Visayas Longboard Trilogy of the same year. Since then, he has competed in various local downhill skateboarding competitions, collecting nearly two dozen local race wins. In 2015 and 2016, he ranked number one on overall points in the Philippines for the UNITED Keeping it High Race Season.

International career[edit]

de Lange made his international downhill skateboarding debut in 2016 when he joined the Asia Pacific leg of International Downhill Federation World Cup [3]. During this period, he raced in four races, namely: the Mt. Kiera Downhill World Cup in Australia, Mt. Ruapehu Gravity Festival in New Zealand, Veggie High World Qualifying Series in Cebu, Philippines, and Lumban World Qualifying Series in Luzon, Philippines. After his personal tour, he was ranked third place in the World in terms of International Downhill Federation (IDF) points, and made history as the highest ranked Filipino racer in IDF history until present day.

In 2017, he joined the Australasia tour of the IDF, where he finished 6th place overall, and fastest ranking Asian in the same tour. He competed in three races for this circuit, namely Newton’s Nation in Australia, Seaside in the Philippines and Arirang Hill in South Korea.

In 2018, he participated in three races of the IDF during the Asia Pacific and North America legs. He participated in three races, namely Seaside in the Philippines, Mt. Jefferson in North Carolina, USA, and Devil’s Peak Downhill in Colorado, USA, where he was the single Asian representative.

In 2019, he participated in eight (8) Downhill Federation Races, and he finished the season as 11th place in the world. He was also the Philippine Team Captain/Coach for the World Roller Games [4] in Barcelona. In August of 2019, he was the champion of the SouthEast Asian Games Philippine National Qualifiers. On December 9th, he made history by becoming the first ever Gold Medalist [5] for the SouthEast Asian Games for Downhill Skateboarding. This was the first time the sport was recognized by an Olympic subcommittee.

Aside from being a professional downhill skateboarder, de Lange is a commercial model who has had campaigns for No Fear Philippines [6] and Sunnies Studios [7].
