Alapoet is the Internet nom de plume of journalist Steve Elliott, a native of Alabama who has lived on the American West Coast since 1999, first in Southern California, and now in the Seattle area.

Elliott is the author of The Little Black Book of Marijuana: The Essential Guide to the World of Cannabis, published by Peter Pauper Press in 2011, with an updated 2nd Edition published in 2014.

He is editor of Toke Signals, an independent, non-corporate site of cannabis news, views, rumor and humor.

He also edited Hemp News, the internet's longest running compilation of international news stories about hemp and cannabis, from April 2013 until July 2016.

He ws the medical marijuana/dispensary critic for Seattle Weekly ("Toke Signals") from 2011 to 2014, as well as medicated edibles critic for the Weekly's food blog, Voracious ("Incredible Medibles").

From its inception in 2009 until January 2013, Elliott edited Village Voice Media's cannabis site, Toke of the Town.

From 1999 to 2004 he edited F&I Management and Technology and Business Fleet magazines, both published by Bobit Publishing. F&I is aimed at car dealerships and deals with automotive finance. Business Fleet is aimed at companies that operate from 10 to 50 business vehicles.

He is a 1982 journalism/psychology graduate of the University of North Alabama, Florence, Alabama.
