From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alejandro Maclean is the only Spanish pilot competing in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship ([www.redbullairrace.com]), under the number 36. He flights with MXS R aircraft ([www.mxaircraft.com]), is a new breed of aircraft representing the latest in state of the art design and technology. The plane was designed using advanced computer solid modelling with emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency. Maclean’s interest in flying began as a child when he built model airplanes and operated remote controlled planes. He climbed into a cockpit for the first time at 18 when he bought an ultralight, the first of a series of planes he would own on the way to winning two Spanish aerobatic championships. He has had a lot of good fortune in his flying career, suffering multiple broken bones from a crash when the propeller broke apart on an experimental plane he was flying. His whole aircraft came apart in midair in another earlier incident, but he was able to bail out and land safely with his parachute from just 200 metres. He became 2005 captain of the Spanish aerobatics team and 2009 is his 5th year with the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. For the current season, Maclean said “I’m working full throttle on the next season, the plane, my fitness, the team and the tools. It’s an awesome race and I can’t wait to start racing again.”
