Guo Cheng Dong (born in 1975) is a Chinese sculptor established in France since 2002[1]. His surname Guo and his first name Cheng Dong in simplified Chinese are: 郭成东 and in traditional Chinese 郭成東[2]. He graduated with a Bachelor degree from the Fine Arts Academy of Luxun[3] in China, promotion 1999, and Master from the Beaux-Arts de Versailles[4] in France in 2007 where he obtained the Distinctions from the jury. His father, Guo Zhong Wen, is a jade carver[5] who was awarded the First Jade Carving Prize in China in 1987. Influenced by his father's work, Guo Cheng Dong explored traditional Chinese jade carving and stonemason techniques[6]. He alternately works with wood, ceramics, plaster, steel and bronze.
The artist represents the body of the horse[7] in his sculptures because this animal reflects his childhood in Mongolia as Artsper writes. For the artist Guo Cheng Dong, the horse is a symbol of freedom as explained by Creation Contemporaine Asie.
He also creates custom portrait busts and monumental sculptures for public art and private collections[8].
