Based on current Wikipedia statistics, it's safe to say:

  • A Hugo win in any fiction category makes the author notable.
  • A Hugo nomination in the Novel and Novella categories makes the author notable.
  • A Hugo nomination in the shorter fiction categories (Novelette and Short Story) do not guarantee notability, but roughly 94% of these authors are considered notable.

[edit]

None. Lia Belt is listed on the Wikipedia article for Novelette, but her role was as translator, and not an official winner (? There is some debate on whether translators or other types of contributors actually receive an award).

Daniel Polansky Level 5 No No 2 12 maybe Seven novels, including two series, and five pieces of shorter fiction. Nominated in 2012 for Locus Best First Novel. One Hugo nomination; preliminary nominee for three Gemmell Awards. Numerous interviews have been conducted with the author at SFsignal, Fantasy Faction, SciFi Bulletin, Book Browse, and many others. Not qualified for SFWA, and lack of SFE entry indicates lack of notability in the SF field. Large number of reviews, however, does indicate notability.
Pat Forde (author) Level 5 No No 4 0 maybe Published 3 stories. "The Gift" won the 1987 Analog Award for Best Novella/Novelette, and was an honorable mention for the 1988 Sturgeon Award. "In Spirit" won the 2002 Analog Award for Best Novella, was nominated for a Hugo, was a preliminary nominees for the 2003 Nebula, and made the Locus top 20. Has two qualifying short stories, but not meet requirements for SFWA. Lack of SFE entry indicates lack of notability in the SF field. 'Numerous' award nominations and wins, however, does indicate notability.
William Hutson Level 5 No No 2 0 skip Contributed to The Deep (novella), which was nominated for a Hugo. Does not meet requirements for SFWA. Don't recommend an article for this author yet.
Jonathan Snipes Level 5 No No 2 0 skip Same situation as William Hutson, so also a skip.

K. M. Szpara Level 3 Yes No 5 3 Yes 2 novels, and numerous short fiction. 2 Hugo noms, 2 Tiptree, 2 Locus, 1 Nebula, and 1 Compton Crook. Good candidate based on " or has been nominated for such an award several times".
William Walling (author) Level 3 Yes Yes 1 5 Yes 3 novels, a dozen short stories, 1 with a Hugo and Locus nomination. Has a French Wikipedia entry.
Simone Heller Level 5 No No 4 1 Skip Author only has 2 pieces of short fiction, but 4 award nominations for "When We Were Starless".
Gray Rinehart Level 5 No Yes 1 2 Skip 1 novel, and prolific at short fiction. 1 Hugo nomination. Does not have multiple award nominations, nor numerous reviews, and no SFE entry, so this is a pass for now.
David VanDyke Level 5 No No 3 1 Skip Published 2 dozen novels, with a Hugo and Nebula nomination. Many of the novels are collaborations, and the author has no SFE entry, so I would pass on an article for now.
Robert M. Green, Jr. Level 5 No Yes 2 0 Skip Published 6 short stories, one of which was nominated for a Hugo and a Nebula. Otherwise no other awards, and no reviews. Pass for now.
Isabel Fall Level 5 No No 2 0 Skip Only 1 story attributed to Fall in the ISFDB. The story, however, is infamous, so much so that Wikipedia has a lengthy article on that story, and her name is a redirect to that article. Wikipedia has already made a decision on notability, so we should wait until the author publishes more.
Stix Hiscock Level 5 No No 1 1 Skip Only 1 short fiction with 1 Hugo nomination. Should pass for now.
