HÜMÜH, Transcendental Buddhism[edit]

HÜMÜH, Transcendental Buddhism, is a fresh expression of Buddhism originating in North America itself at the end of the twentieth century. Founded by Wisdom Master Maticintin in 1992, HÜMÜH is a non-traditional Buddhist school that has spread rapidly from its beginnings in the United States. It currently has a retreat center, monastery, and Transcendental Awareness Institute in Canada, as well as meditation centers in the U.S. and membership in England, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, the Ukraine and other countries.

Rooted in the Teachings of Sakyamuni and Padmasambhava, HÜMÜH Buddhism also incorporates the key teachings of the historical schools of Buddhism—Hinayana, Mahayana, Vajrayana, and Dzogchen—but goes beyond them to present a vehicle for the achievement of self-realization in a format that is consonant with the Western world body/mind experience.

As conceived by its Founder and Spiritual Leader Wisdom Master Maticintin, HÜMÜH is a Path to Enlightenment and self-mastery through transcendental awareness. In her recent book, Secrets of the Golden Spiral, the Wisdom Master defines transcendental as “go(ing) beyond the limitations of the ordinary consciousness, which sees things as dual (life/death, good/bad, worthy/unworthy) to the non-dual, all encompassing Reality of Oneness. She further states, “This opens the door to experiencing life from the overview, which enables one to make choices that end habitual suffering.”

Wisdom Master Maticintin has been a formal student of Buddhism for more than 30 years. At one point, she lived in various temples across Japan where she studied both Zen and Nichiren Buddhism and contributed to the English translations of both the Heart Sutra and Lotus Sutra.

Presently, HÜMÜH’s Transcendental Awareness Institute (H.T.A.I.) offers an extensive curriculum, which can lead to a Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate in Logic and Buddhism. The program includes both home-study courses and classes offered at Skycliffe, HÜMÜH monastery’s retreat center located in Westbridge, British Columbia, Canada, about 40 miles north of the U.S. border above Washington State.

There are HÜMÜH meditation centers and study groups throughout the United States and Canada.
