"Jews emigrated in relatively high numbers in proportion to the Jewish population.[clarification needed] About 2 million of the 3.5 million went to the United States.[6] Only a small minority of 6,000 Jews moved to Ottoman Palestine.[7] This accounted for only about 2% of the emigrants who went to Palestine[7] A large majority of the Jewish emigration movement came from Russia, Romania,and Galicia.[7] The pogroms that took place in Russia and Romania caused massive emigration of Jews.[7] During the time of the programs, Jews were ridiculed and, as a result, left Romania and Russia.[7] The First Aliyah[4] occurred from 1881-1882 and did not go as planned as they ran out of funds and had trouble familiarizing themselves with Palestinian land.[7] The Rothschild administration rescued the Zionist movement as they funded Zionists through purchasing large settlements and created new settlements as well.[7] At the closure of the first Aliya, the Jews had successfully purchased 350,000 dunams of land. Thus, the First Aliya was considered a success through the eyes of most Zionists since they were able to migrate and thrive economically in Palestine.[7] Immigration of the Jews to Palestine took place from 1882-1904 but continued thereafter.[7] " This is the section I added to the page "First Aliyah". Immigration of the Jews to Palestine took place from 1882-1904 but Jewish immigration continued thereafter.”
