User:Andy 1One/2010 NFL Predictions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here are my personal predictions for the upcoming NFL season.

AFC East[edit]

Buffalo[edit]

Buffalo has a new head coach in Chan Gailey. Gailey has prior NFL coaching experience and will try to revive this storied franchise. The team has a loaded backfield with Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller, and Marshawn Lynch. Jackson might be out the first few games, so rookie Spiller could get an opportunity to prove his worth. The rest of the offense is awful, however. The Bills claimed they were "set" at quarterback before the draft, but with Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick not impressing, they should have picked a QB instead of Spiller. TO is gone, so Lee Evans is the only remaining threat at wideout. Lastly on offense, the line is consistently bad, and this year should be no exception. The strength of this team is their secondary. Jairus Byrd tied for the league lead in interceptions (9) as a rookie. Terrence McGee also stars at corner. The Bills will have to replace Aaron Schobel at linebacker, so they'll need Andra Davis and Paul Posluszny to pick up the slack. The weakness of this defense is the D-line, a group headlined by Marcus Stroud. Finally, the Bills have one of the best special teams in the game, with Rian Lindell the kicker and Brian Moorman the punter.

  • Week 16: vs. New England (Loss)
  • Week 17: at New York Jets (Loss)
Final Prediction: 4-12

Miami[edit]

The Dolphins fell in the standings last year, so head coach Tony Sparano will look for his team to regain their 2008 look. He has a new weapon on offense, with Brandon Marshall giving the Dolphins a deep threat through the air. His quarterback will be Chad Henne, who showed flashes of brilliance last year. This team will continue to run the ball, however, with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams in the backfield. They also have a solid offensive line, and will try to further expand their use of the wildcat in the red zone. On defense, they have a new look at linebacker, with Akin Ayodele, Joey Porter, and Jason Taylor out, and Karlos Dansby in. They've also lost Gibril Wilson in the secondary, and their defensive line is unimpressive. They have a solid special teams corps, with Dan Carpenter the kicker and Brandon Fields the punter, although their return game will miss the explosiveness of Ted Ginn, Jr.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Buffalo (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Minnesota (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. New England (Win)

  • Week 15: vs. Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. Detroit (Win)
  • Week 17: at New England (Loss)
Final Prediction: 8-8

New England[edit]

Bill Belichick's team has growing issues, including age, injuries, and contract disputes. Tom Brady remains one of the league's best quarterbacks, however, and always gives his team a chance to win. Randy Moss is still his number one option, and Wes Welker's rehab is well ahead of schedule. Julian Edelman is also beginning to develop into a threat at wideout. The Pat's running game is nearly nonexistent, with Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris carrying the load. Their offensive line is solid, though, and should continue to do a good job protecting Brady. The real problems, however, come on defense, with players retiring, entering free agency, or getting injured. Vince Wilfork is the only remaining anchor on the line, with Ty warren being placed on injured reserve. The Patriots will have to settle with Tully Banta-Cain leading the linebackers, as they lost both Junior Seau and Adalius Thomas. The strongpoint here is their secondary, a group headed by Leigh Bodden. Lastly, the special teams is solid, with Stephen Gostkowski kicking, rookie Zoltan Mesko punting, and Brandon Tate returning.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Cincinnati (Win)
  • Week 2: at New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 4: at Miami (Loss)
  • Week 5: BYE
  • Week 6: vs. Baltimore (Loss)

  • Week 11: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 12: at Detroit (Win)
  • Week 13: vs. New York Jets (Win)
  • Week 14: at Chicago (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Green Bay (Loss)
  • Week 16: at Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Miami (Win)
Final Prediction: 8-8

New York Jets[edit]

Rex Ryan's team has the talent to back up his swagger. Mark Sanchez should cut down on his mistakes and throw fewer interceptions in his sophomore season. He'll have a new favorite target once Santonio Holmes comes back from his suspension. Holmes joins Braylon Edwards, Jericho Cotchery and TE Dustin Keller in what has become a deep receiving corps. The running game should excel once again, with Shonn Green taking over the starting job and LT joining him as an insurance policy. They will have plenty of running lanes, with Damien Woody, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and Nick Mangold forming one of the league's best lines. The Jets also improved on defense, adding Antonio Cromartie to the secondary. Darrelle Revis is back, and they still have Cromartie, Jim Leonhard, Brodney Pool, and rookie Kyle Wilson. They added Jason Taylor to their linebackers, where he'll add depth to a group headlined by Calvin Pace and Bart Scott. Their Line is also solid, anchored by veterans Kris Jenkins and Shaun Ellis. Lastly, they've also made changes to their special teams, adding Nick Folk as their kicker, and making rookies Joe McKnight and Kyle Wilson their return men.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Baltimore (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. New England (Win)
  • Week 3: at Miami (Win)
  • Week 4: at Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 5: vs. Minnesota (Win)

  • Week 8: vs. Green Bay (Win)
  • Week 9: at Detroit (Win)
  • Week 10: at Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 11: vs. Houston (Win)
  • Week 12: vs. Cincinnati (Win)
  • Week 13: at New England (Loss)
  • Week 14: vs. Miami (Win)
  • Week 15: at Pittsburgh (Loss)
  • Week 16: at Chicago (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Buffalo (Win)
Final Prediction: 14-2

AFC North[edit]

Baltimore[edit]

Under John Harbaugh, the Ravens have won playoff games in back to back years. This trend should continue, as the Ravens offense adds more and more firepower. Joe Flacco continued to improve in year two, and in year three he'll have even more options. Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth join Derrick Mason in what has suddenly become a very deep receiving corps. Ray Rice leads one of the league's best running games. Michael Oher leads a developing offensive line. Who would have thought that the Ravens weaknesses would be on defense? Injuries to Ed Reed and Dominic Foxworth are decimating an already thin secondary. Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are not getting any younger at linebacker. The defensive line is solid, however, lead by Haloti Ngata. The special teams is unimpressive with Billy Cundiff kicking and Sam Koch punting.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 4: at Pittsburgh (Win)
  • Week 5: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 6: at New England (Win)
  • Week 7: vs. Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 8: BYE
  • Week 9: vs. Miami (Win)
  • Week 10: at Atlanta (Win)
  • Week 11: at Carolina (Win)
  • Week 12: vs. Tampa Bay (Win)
  • Week 13: vs. Pittsburgh (Win)
  • Week 14: at Houston (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. New Orleans (Win)
  • Week 16: at Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Cincinnati (Win)
Final Prediction: 13-3

Cincinnati[edit]

Marvin Lewis likely saved his job by reaching the playoffs last year, but now the goal should be winning a playoff game. Carson Palmer should do better this year with new weapons. Terrell Owens joins Chad Ochocinco in a reality TV receiving corps. The Bengals also used draft picks to bring in wideout Jordan Shipley and tight end Jermaine Gresham, who should also develop into targets for Palmer. Cedric Benson will remain a threat out of the backfield, and the improved passing game should open up running lanes. The offensive line is also very good and should do a good job protecting Palmer. The defense is solid. Leon Hall and Roy Williams lead a good secondary. The linebacker corps is also impressive, and the defensive line should do a decent job. The Bengals made changes in the special teams, bringing in Mike Nugent to be the kicker.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at New England (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Baltimore (Win)
  • Week 3: at Carolina (Win)
  • Week 4: at Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 5: vs. Tampa Bay (Win)
  • Week 6: BYE
  • Week 7: at Atlanta (Win)
  • Week 8: vs. Miami (Win)
  • Week 9: vs. Pittsburgh (Win)
  • Week 10: at Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 11: vs. Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 12: at New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 13: vs. New Orleans (Win)
  • Week 14: at Pittsburgh (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. San Diego (Win)
  • Week 17: at Baltimore (Loss)
Final Prediction: 11-5

Cleveland[edit]

With Mike Holmgren now in charge, Eric Mangini is on the hot seat. Only a four game win streak at the end of last season saved his job for this year. The Browns have a complete makeover at quarterback, with interception prone Jake Delhomme taking over. Behind him are career backup Seneca Wallace and rookie Colt McCoy. The receiving options are limited, with tight end Benjamin Watson joining wideouts Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi. Jerome Harrison is the feature back, and it is unlikely he will continue his success from the last few games of 2009. The left side of their line is good, lead by Joe Thomas, but the right side is not. On defense, they made improvements to their secondary, drafting cornerback Joe Haden. They've added depth to their linebackers, bringing in Scott Fujita and Chris Gocong. The defensive line is okay, lead by Shaun Rogers. Lastly, they have an excellent special teams corps, particularly Josh Cribbs the return man.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Tampa Bay (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 3: at Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 5: vs. Atlanta (Loss)
  • Week 6: at Pittsburgh (Loss)
  • Week 7: at New Orleans (Loss)
  • Week 8: BYE
  • Week 9: vs. New England (Loss)
  • Week 10: vs. New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 11: at Jacksonville (Loss)
  • Week 12: vs. Carolina (Loss)
  • Week 13: at Miami (Loss)
  • Week 14: at Buffalo (Loss)
  • Week 15: at Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. Pittsburgh (Loss)
Final Prediction: 1-15

Pittsburgh[edit]

Mike Tomlin followed in Bill Cowher footsteps, leading the Steelers to the Super Bowl. However, injuries and bad losses set Pittsburgh back last year, and more problems are in store this year. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss the first four games because of a suspension, and his backup Byron Leftwich has gone down with an injury. The Steelers were forced to trade embattled receiver Santonio Holmes, but they still have Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, and Antwaan Randle El. Running back Rashard Mendenhall will need to step it up the first few weeks to make up for the lack of an effective passing game. There are also questions on the line, with an already poor group losing Willie Colon. The defense, on the other hand, should be much better than it was last year. Troy Polamalu will be back and better than ever, and Bryant McFadden joins a secondary that struggled a bit last year. James Harrison, Lawrence Timmons, James Farrior, and LaMarr Woodley form one of the league's best linebacking corps. The line is also very good, led by Aaron Smith, who returns from injury. Finally, the special teams could be better, with Jeff Reed and Daniel Sepulveda doing the kicking and punting, respectively.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Atlanta (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 3: at Tampa Bay (Win)
  • Week 4: vs. Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 5: BYE
  • Week 6: vs. Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 7: at Miami (Loss)
  • Week 8: at New Orleans (Loss)
  • Week 9: at Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 10: vs. New England (Win)
  • Week 11: vs. Oakland (Win)
  • Week 12: at Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 13: at Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 14: vs. Cincinnati (Win)
  • Week 15: vs. New York Jets (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. Carolina (Win)
  • Week 17: at Cleveland (Win)
Final Prediction: 9-7

AFC South[edit]

Houston[edit]

Under Gary Kubiak, the Texans have experienced steady progress, including their first winning season last year. However, fans and management are getting restless, and anything less than a playoff appearance might mean the end of the line for Kubiak. Matt Schaub is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Last year, he led the league in passing yards and was named Pro Bowl MVP. His primary target, Andre Johnson, may be the best wide receiver in the game. The passing game should also benefit from the return of tight end Owen Daniels. The running game, which struggled last year with Steve Slaton, should improve with the addition of rookie Ben Tate. The traditionally awful Texans line won't be terrible, but it won't be very good, either. The young Texans defense is highlighted by a linebacking corps of Mario Williams, Brian Cushing, and DeMeco Ryans. They have a decent defensive line, led by Amobi Okoye. The team's most glaring issue, however, is their secondary. They will look to rookie Kareem Jackson to replace the departed Dunta Robinson at corner, but don't expect much. Lastly, the team has a decent special teams corps, led by kicker Kris Brown.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Washington (Win)
  • Week 3: vs. Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 4: at Oakland (Win)
  • Week 5: vs. New York Giants (Win)
  • Week 6: vs. Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 7: BYE
  • Week 8: at Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 9: vs. San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 10: at Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 11: at New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 12: vs. Tennessee (Win)
  • Week 13: at Philadelphia (Win)
  • Week 14: vs. Baltimore (Win)
  • Week 15: at Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 16: at Denver (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Jacksonville (Win)
Final Prediction: 10-6

Indianapolis[edit]

Jim Caldwell started 14-0 and reached the Super Bowl in year one. He wants nothing less than to win the big game in year two. Any team with Peyton Manning at the helm has that chance. Manning has the best receiving corps in the game, including Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, and tight end Dallas Clark. If this team can somehow get more production out of backs Joseph Addai and Donald Brown, they'll be unstoppable. It really doesn't matter who is on the offensive line, as Manning's quick release allows him to avoid sacks. On defense, their line creates many problems in the backfield, with Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney coming off the edge. Gary Brackett headlines a mediocre linebacking corps. Bob Sanders and Antoine Bethea anchor a good secondary. Finally, Adam Vinatieri leads a solid special teams corps as one of the league's best kickers.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Houston (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. New York Giants (Win)
  • Week 3: at Denver (Win)
  • Week 4: at Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 5: vs. Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 6: at Washington (Win)
  • Week 7: BYE
  • Week 8: vs. Houston (Win)
  • Week 9: at Philadelphia (Win)
  • Week 10: vs. Cincinnati (Win)
  • Week 11: at New England (Win)
  • Week 12: vs. San Diego (Win)
  • Week 13: vs. Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 14: at Tennessee (Win)
  • Week 15: vs. Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 16: at Oakland (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Tennessee (Win)
Final Prediction: 15-1

Jacksonville[edit]

This may be Jack Del Rio's final season in Jacksonville. His Jaguars have now put up back to back mediocre seasons. David Garrard is not the franchise quarterback the Jaguars hoped he would be, and he may on the way out soon, too. He does have a good receiving option in Mike Sims-Walker, but that's about it. Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the league's best backs, but he can't carry a team on his own. The offensive line has done a terrible job opening running lanes and protecting Garrard, and this year doesn't look any better. Their defensive line has been unable to get to opposing quarterbacks, and their secondary has been equally ineffective at stopping the pass. Kirk Morrison anchors the Jags linebackers, the defense's lone bright spot. They do have good special teams, with Josh Scobee the kicker and Adam Podlesh the punter.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 2: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Philadelphia (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 5: at Buffalo (Loss)
  • Week 6: vs. Tennessee (Win)
  • Week 7: at Kansas City (Loss)
  • Week 8: at Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 9: BYE
  • Week 10: vs. Houston (Loss)
  • Week 11: vs. Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 12: at New York Giants (Loss)
  • Week 13: at Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 14: vs. Oakland (Win)
  • Week 15: at Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. Washington (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Houston (Loss)
Final Prediction: 4-12

Tennessee[edit]

Jeff Fisher is now the longest tenured coach in the nation, although this streak may come to an end if the Titans under perform another season or two. Vince Young took over as quarterback after an 0-6 start by Kerry Collins and went 8-2. It will remain to be seen if he can repeat that success this season. He has a couple of underrated receivers in Kenny Britt and Nate Washington, as well as former college teammate Bo Scaife at tight end. Chris Johnson rushed for over 2,000 yards last year, and he wants to rush for even more this year. His offensive line may let him do that, as it is one of the best in the league. Their so-called "No-Name Defense" is rightly dubbed. Gone is Kyle Vanden Bosch on the line. They have a solid linebacking corps led by newcomer Will Witherspoon. They also have a mediocre secondary, a group headlined by Cortland Finnegan. Lastly, they have mediocre special teams, led by kicker Rob Bironas.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Oakland (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. Pittsburgh (Win)
  • Week 3: at New York Giants (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 5: at Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 6: at Jacksonville (Loss)
  • Week 7: vs. Philadelphia (Win)
  • Week 8: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 9: BYE
  • Week 10: at Miami (Loss)
  • Week 11: vs. Washington (Win)
  • Week 12: at Houston (Loss)
  • Week 13: vs. Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 14: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Houston (Win)
  • Week 16: at Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 17: at Indianapolis (Loss)
Final Prediction: 8-8

AFC West[edit]

Denver[edit]

Josh McDaniels started his coaching career 6-0. For the second straight year, the Broncos collapsed down the stretch and finished at 8-8 to miss the playoffs. Kyle Orton enters year two as the starting quarterback, although the Broncos don't seem convinced that he is a long term solution. This off-season, they've traded for Brady Quinn and used a first round draft pick on Tim Tebow. At receiver, they've cut ties with Brandon Marshall, leaving Eddie Royal and Jabar Gaffney as Orton's main targets. They also have rookie Demaryius Thomas and tight end Daniel Graham. At running back, Knowshon Moreno has had injury issues, so he'll likely share the load with Correll Buckhalter. The Broncos also have questions on the line, with rookie J.D. Walton starting at center. On defense, their strength is the secondary, which features veterans Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins. The front seven, on the other hand, has serious issues. They no longer have Andra Davis at linebacker, a glaring issue when you account for the season-ending injury to Elvis Dumervil. On the line, they've added veteran Jamal Williams, although it remains to be seen if he can be effective at 34. Finally, their special teams is mediocre at best, with Matt Prater kicking and Britton Colquitt punting.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Jacksonville (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Seattle (Win)
  • Week 3: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 4: at Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 5: at Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 6: vs. New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 7: vs. Oakland (Win)
  • Week 8: at San Francisco (Loss)
  • Week 9: BYE
  • Week 10: vs. Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 11: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 12: vs. St Louis (Win)
  • Week 13: at Kansas City (Loss)
  • Week 14: at Arizona (Loss)
  • Week 15: at Oakland (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. Houston (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. San Diego (Loss)
Final Prediction: 4-12

Kansas City[edit]

Coach Todd Haley now has a good coaching staff around him. In are Charlie Weis, who will run the offense, and Romeo Crennel, who will run the defense. Weis should help Matt Cassel further develop at quarterback. Cassel has limited options to through to, including Dwayne Bowe, Chris Chambers, and rookie Dexter McCluster. The team will likely be running, however, as they have brought in running back Thomas Jones to complement Jamaal Charles. The line isn't particularly good, though, a disappointing unit last year. On defense, they have a secondary that is solid, including rookie Eric Berry. The line is also fairly decent, though relatively unimpressive. The main issue here, however, is the linebacking, a group anchored by Mike Vrabel. Lastly the have good special teams, featuring Ryan Succop the punter.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Cleveland (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. San Francisco (Loss)
  • Week 4: BYE
  • Week 5: at Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 6: at Houston (Loss)

  • Week 9: at Oakland (Loss)
  • Week 10: at Denver (Loss)
  • Week 11: vs. Arizona (Loss)
  • Week 12: at Seattle (Loss)
  • Week 13: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 14: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 15: at St. Louis (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. Oakland (Win)
Final Prediction: 4-12

Oakland[edit]

Tom Cable somehow kept his job, despite allegations of assault and domestic abuse. One person who did not keep his is JaMarcus Russell, who is replaced at quarterback by Jason Campbell. He doesn't have anyone to throw to, with his best option being tight end Zach Miller. The Raiders will likely run the ball, using backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. The line will need to step it up, however, as it was pretty bad last year. The Raiders actually have a decent defense across the board. Nnamdi Asomugha leads the secondary, a group that also includes Tyvon Branch. Rookie Rolando McClain adds depth to a good linebacking corps. Veteran Richard Seymour leads the line, although the rest of it is unimpressive. Lastly, the special teams play should be good, with Shane Lechler doing the punting.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Tennessee (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. St. Louis (Win)
  • Week 3: at Arizona (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Houston (Loss)
  • Week 5: vs. San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 6: at San Francisco (Loss)
  • Week 7: at Denver (Loss)

  • Week 13: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 14: at Jacksonville (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. Indianapolis (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Kansas City (Loss)
Final Prediction: 4-12

San Diego[edit]

Norv Turner will be around for a while, although many are wondering why he got an extension after a playoff loss, whereas Marty Schottenheimer was fired. Philip Rivers now has full control of the offense, with LT no longer there. Even without Vincent Jackson he still has good options, including Malcolm Floyd, tight end Antonio Gates, and newcomer Patrick Crayton. The running game should be improved, with rookie Ryan Mathews joining Darren Sproles in the backfield. Their offensive line is also good, so this offense is just completely stacked. Their defense is also good, despite several departures. Quentin Jammer leads the secondary, a group now without Antonio Cromartie. Shawne Merriman leads a good linebacking corps. Jamal Williams is gone off the line, although this group is still solid. Lastly, their special teams is excellent, with Nate Kaeding kicking, Mike Scifres punting, and Darren Sproles returning.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 3: at Seattle (Win)
  • Week 4: vs. Arizona (Win)
  • Week 5: at Oakland (Win)
  • Week 6: at St. Louis (Win)
  • Week 7: vs. New England (Win)
  • Week 8: vs. Tennessee (Win)

  • Week 15: vs. San Francisco (Win)
  • Week 16: at Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Denver (Win)
Final Prediction: 14-2

NFC East[edit]

Dallas[edit]

Wade Phillips finally got his playoff win, so now the goal will be reaching the Super Bowl in their home stadium. They could very well do that, particularly with their offense. Tony Romo has become one of the league's best quarterbacks, and last year set a franchise record for passing yards. He has plenty of options to throw to, including receivers Miles Austin, Roy Williams, and rookie Dez Bryant, as well as tight end Jason Witten. The backfield is also loaded, with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice. One notable change on offense is the absence of Flozell Adams on the line, who will be replaced by Doug Free, who did a solid job last year. The defense features one of the league's best linebacking corps which features DeMarcus Ware, Bradie James, Keith Brooking, and Anthony Spencer. The line should be solid, with Igor Olshansky, Jay Ratliff, and Marcus Spears. There are questions about their secondary, however, a group consisting of Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Gerald Sensabaugh, and Alan Ball. Finally, there are also issues with the special teams, with David Buehler the kicker and Mat McBriar the punter.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Washington (Win)

New York Giants[edit]

Tom Coughlin is once again on the hot seat after a poor finish to last season. Eli Manning has become the quarterback people thought he could be, and he is only getting better. Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks will be his top targets, although tight end Kevin Boss will likely be targeted often also. The running game will look to pick up the pace, with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw sharing the load. The offensive line is still good but is only getting older. The defense really struggled last year, and should be much improved this year. Justin Tuck, Barry Cofield, Chris Canty, and Osi Umenyiora form the front four, a solid group. The linebackers could use some work, however, a corps led by Jonathan Goff. The secondary got a boost with the addition of Antrel Rolle, who joins Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas, and Kenny Phillips. Lastly, Lawrence Tynes will kick and Matt Dodge will punt, a decent pair.

  • Week 15: vs. Philadelphia (Win)
  • Week 16: at Green Bay (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Washington (Loss)
Final Prediction: 10-6

Philadelphia[edit]

Andy Reid will earn his stripes if he can make this team win this year. With a difficult schedule and young roster, he must keep his players focused. Donovan McNabb is gone, so that means the Kevin Kolb era has begun. Kolb has young, talented receivers, but execution will be key. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin will line up wide, while Brent Celek will play tight end. LeSean McCoy will do most of the running, and he has a solid line in front of him. The problems are on defense. This secondary will never hold up against the high-octane passing games the Eagles will be facing. There is no true leader at linebacker, a group consisting of Akeem Jordan, Stewart Bradley, and Ernie Sims. Rookie Brandon Graham will be asked to step up on the line, although I don't think he's up to the task. David Akers is still a good kicker, and the only real veteran on the team.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Green Bay (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Detroit (Win)
  • Week 3: at Jacksonville (Win)
  • Week 4: vs. Washington (Win)

  • Week 16: vs. Minnesota (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. Dallas (Loss)
Final Prediction: 3-13

Washington[edit]

Mike Shanahan is in charge now, and he's clearly shown it during preseason. Donovan McNabb takes over at quarterback, bringing new life to the Redskins passing game. His number one option at wideout will likely be Santana Moss, although tight end Chris Cooley will also be targeted. Larry Johnson joins Clinton Portis in the backfield, although his impact will be small. The offensive line could use some work, although McNabb's mobility should make up for this. The defensive line will need Albert Haynesworth, although his dispute with Shanahan will likely get in the way. Brian Orakpo leads a very good linebacking corps. DeAngelo Hall leads a decent secondary. The special teams carry a degree of uncertainty, with Graham Gano kicking and Josh Bidwell punting.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Houston (Loss)

NFC North[edit]

Chicago[edit]

Lovie Smith is on the hot seat, so he'll need a good season to keep his job. Jay Cutler will be mentored this year by new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and he should be able to cut down on his interception. His receivers have gained a year of experience, and the Bears added tight end Brandon Manumaleuna via free agency. Matt Forte now has a partner in the backfield, with Chester Taylor being added to the roster. The line is mediocre, and this could develop into a problem. The Bears defense should be better this year, as Brian Urlacher will be back at linebacker. The Bears also have Julius Peppers on the line now, making their pass rush even more dangerous. Charles Tillman leads a solid secondary. Lastly, the special teams are excellent, especially Robbie Gould the kicker.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Detroit (Win)
  • Week 2: at Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Green Bay (Win)
  • Week 4: at New York Giants (Loss)
  • Week 5: at Carolina (Loss)

  • Week 15: at Minnesota (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. New York Jets (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Green Bay (Loss)
Final Prediction: 9-7

Detroit[edit]

Jim Schwartz helped his team finally win last year, improving from zero to two wins. More improvement is expected this year. Matthew Stafford is entering his sophomore season, and there is a cautious optimism surrounding him. The Lions have provided targets for him, with Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson at wideout, and Brandon Pettigrew at tight end. Rookie Jahvid Best should provide some much needed pop running the ball. The Lions have also improved the line, bringing in Rob Sims at guard. The major improvements, however, are on defense. Detroit took Ndamukong Suh with their first draft pick, and have also added Kyle Vanden Bosch on the line. Julian Peterson anchors a mediocre linebacking corps. The Lions hope that rookie Amari Spievey develops into a good corner in the secondary. Jason Hanson the kicker is the bright spot of an otherwise unimpressive special teams.

  • Week 16: at Miami (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. Minnesota (Loss)
Final Prediction: 1-15

Green Bay[edit]

Mike McCarthy has done a good job as Packers coach as he enters his fifth season. Aaron Rodgers has made most Packer fans forget about Brett Favre with two impressive seasons. He has plenty of options to throw to, including receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, as well as tight end Jermichael Finley. Ryan Grant has been a reliable back, although the Packers want more production. The offensive line remains a galring hole, although it has improved a bit. The secondary will be without Al Harris and Atari Bigby to start the year, although Charles Woodson can likely pick up the slack. The linebackers are solid, led by Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk. Johnny Jolly anchors a good defensive line. The special teams play is suspect, however, with kicker Mason Crosby struggling last year.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Philadelphia (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. Buffalo (Win)
  • Week 3: at Chicago (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Detroit (Win)
  • Week 5: at Washington (Win)

  • Week 15: at New England (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. New York Giants (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Chicago (Win)
Final Prediction: 13-3

Minnesota[edit]

The Vikings have experienced steady growth under Brad Childress, but they may have hit their ceiling last season. Brett Favre is back, although there are questions about his health. Sidney Rice is out for the first half of the season, so Favre will have to turn to receivers Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin, as well as tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. Adrian Peterson is still one of the league's best backs, but he needs to cut down on his fumbles. Rookie Toby Gerhart replaces Chester Taylor as his backup. The offensive line is still pretty good. This defense is stellar. Jared Allen anchors a line that also features Pat and Kevin Williams. E.J. Henderson heads a solid linebacking corps. Antoine Winfield and Lito Sheppard partly form a decent secondary. Kicker Ryan Longwell helps make this special teams one of the league's best.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at New Orleans (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Miami (Win)
  • Week 3: vs. Detroit (Win)
  • Week 4: BYE

  • Week 17: at Detroit (Win)
Final Prediction: 11-5

NFC South[edit]

Atlanta[edit]

Mike Smith has led the Falcons to the playoffs in back-to-back years, the first time in the history of the team. Quarterback Matt Ryan should be healthy and better than ever, as he enters his third season. Roddy White will continue to be his main target, and tight end Tony Gonzalez will also get some touches. Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood form one of the NFL's best backfields. The team also has a developing offensive line, which should benefit the run and the pass. On defense, Dunta Robinson gives them a reliable corner in a formerly porous secondary. Curtis Lofton leads a solid linebacking corps. On the other hand, the line is unimpressive. The Falcons also have solid special teams, with Michael Koenen punting,

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 15: at Seattle (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. New Orleans (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Carolina (Win)
Final Prediction: 12-4

Carolina[edit]

John Fox is on the hot seat again, just one of many coaches who may soon be on their way out. Matt Moore will start at quarterback, although Jimmy Clausen will likely step in if he struggles. Steve Smith will be Moore's main target again. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will continue to get carries and are probably the best running back duo in the game. The offense line is also pretty solid. Julius Peppers is no longer the anchor of this defense, leaving a huge hole on the line. Jon Beason leads an average linebacking corps. The secondary is good but not great. Lastly, John Kasay leads a mediocre special teams squad.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at New York Giants (Loss)
  • Week 2: vs. Tampa Bay (Win)
  • Week 3: vs. Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 4: at New Orleans (Loss)

  • Week 14: vs. Atlanta (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Arizona (Win)
  • Week 16: at Pittsburgh (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Atlanta (Loss)
Final Prediction: 6-10

New Orleans[edit]

Sean Payton is one of the league's best head coaches, and he is willing to make an unconventional call or two. Drew Brees is arguably the league's best quarterback, and he makes his receivers better simply through his presence. They have a deep, diverse receiving corps that consists of Devery Henderson, Marques Colston, and Robert Meachem. Brees also has tight end Jeremy Shockey to throw to. Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas are a solid combo in the backfield. The offensive line is also very good. On defense, the Saints strength is their secondary, a group including Tracy Porter, Jabari Greer, Darren Sharper, and Roman Harper. They also have a solid defensive line, and a linebacking led by Jonathan Vilma. Lastly, the special teams is pretty good, including Garrett Hartley who can make kicks even under pressure.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Minnesota (Win)
  • Week 2: at San Francisco (Win)
  • Week 3: vs. Atlanta (Win)
  • Week 4: vs. Carolina (Win)
  • Week 5: at Arizona (Win)

  • Week 13: at Cincinnati (Loss)
  • Week 14: vs. St. Louis (Win)
  • Week 15: at Baltimore (Loss)
  • Week 16: at Atlanta (Loss)
  • Week 17: vs. Tampa Bay (Win)
Final Prediction: 12-4

Tampa Bay[edit]

Raheem Morris is entering his second season, and so far it has not been pretty. Josh Freeman did not impress last, and expectations are not very high. He has no one to throw to, as all of his receivers are rookies. Their offense will likely rely on a running game based around Cadillac Williams, but it probably won't be very productive. At least the offensive line is relatively solid. This defense was awful last year, and things don't look much better for this year. The secondary is the bright spot, led by Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib. The defensive line and linebackers are mediocre at best. Lastly, the special teams is not so special.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Cleveland (Win)
  • Week 2: at Carolina (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Pittsburgh (Loss)
  • Week 4: BYE
  • Week 5: at Cincinnati (Loss)

  • Week 14: at Washington (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Detroit (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. Seattle (Win)
  • Week 17: at New Orleans (Loss)
Final Prediction: 5-11

NFC West[edit]

Arizona[edit]

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt managed to turn the Cardinals into winners, but that task will be very difficult this year. The quarterback situation has clearly deteriorated since the playoffs. First, Kurt Warner retired without much fanfare. The heir to the throne, Matt Leinart, then went on to underwhelm and whine in preseason, so now he's been cut, and Derek Anderson is now in charge. Anderson will have Larry Fitzgerald to throw to, although Anquan Boldin is no longer there. Steve Breaston is a reliable number two. Beanie Wells is the feature back, and many think he is the future of the Cardinals. The offensive line should be effective, but not overwhelming. Darnell Dockett is the anchor of a solid defensive line. The loss of Karlos Dansby will hurt the linebacking, and the lack of Antrel Rolle and Bryant McFadden will leave a hole in the secondary. Also of note, Jay Feely replaces Neil Rackers as kicker.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at St. Louis (Win)
  • Week 2: at Atlanta (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Oakland (Win)
  • Week 4: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 5: vs. New Orleans (Loss)

  • Week 14: vs. Denver (Win)
  • Week 15: at Carolina (Loss)
  • Week 16: vs. Dallas (Loss)
  • Week 17: at San Francisco (Loss)
Final Prediction: 8-8

St. Louis[edit]

Steve Spagnuolo enters his second season looking for improvement as opposed to last year's regression from two to one win. Sam Bradford takes over as quarterback, and he has certainly shown potential this preseason. However, his main threat, Donnie Avery, will miss the entire season due to injury. Steven Jackson will make Bradford's rookie year a bit easier, as he is one of the league's best running backs. A key to this team's development will be the play of the offensive line. The defense is not very good, as all three areas will need major improvements in the next few seasons. The special teams play will be solid if unspectacular.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. Arizona (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Oakland (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. Washington (Loss)
  • Week 4: vs. Seattle (Win)
  • Week 5: at Detroit (Loss)

  • Week 14: at New Orleans (Loss)
  • Week 15: vs. Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 16: vs. San Francisco (Loss)
  • Week 17: at Seattle (Loss)
Final Prediction: 2-14

San Francisco[edit]

Mike Singletary has done a decent job, and last year the 49ers improved to 8-8. Alex Smith is a mediocre quarterback, although he is not the worst in the league. Michael Crabtree should improve in his first full season, and Vernon Davis the tight end is one of the league's best. The 49ers have a veteran backfield, with Brian Westbrook joining mainstay Frank Gore. San Francisco will rely on an offensive line improved through the draft. The defensive line is solid but nothing great. The linebackers are good, particularly Patrick Willis, who may be the league's best. The secondary is the defense's weakness, but this group isn't awful. Finally, the return game should get a big boost with the arrival of Ted Ginn, Jr.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: at Seattle (Win)
  • Week 2: vs. New Orleans (Loss)
  • Week 3: at Kansas City (Win)
  • Week 4: at Atlanta (Loss)

  • Week 15: at San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 16: at St. Louis (Win)
  • Week 17: vs. Arizona (Win)
Final Prediction: 11-5

Seattle[edit]

Pete Carroll makes his return to the NFL, and a weak schedule should allow him to rack up some wins. Matt Hasselbeck is still the quarterback, although age and injuries continue to raise questions. Major issues have developed at wide receiver, specifically the losses of T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Nate Burleson. The running game is also unimpressive, a group led by Justin Forsett. The o-line will get a boost with the arrival of first round pick Russell Okung. Earl Thomas, another first rounder, will help a weak secondary. The defensive line is also thin. However, the linebackers are good, especially Lofa Tatupu. Lastly, the special teams is solid but unspectacular.

Schedule[edit]

  • Week 1: vs. San Francisco (Loss)
  • Week 2: at Denver (Loss)
  • Week 3: vs. San Diego (Loss)
  • Week 4: at St. Louis (Loss)
