Why your article may have been deleted

It is likely that you are reading this page because you are about to ask about a message I sent to your talk page saying that I have nominated your article for speedy deletion or proposed deletion. Here are a few reasons I may have asked for your article to be deleted.

• Your article is about a non-notable person, band, website, group or organisation (See WP:N and WP:SD)
• Your article is an advertisement (See WP:SPAM and WP:SD)
• Your article had no context or was empty (see WP:SD)

If it was not one of these reasons take a look through WP:Deletion, WP:SD and WP:PROD to see if there is a reason for your article to be deleted. If there was not, please complain at my talk page. (As you were probably about to do as this page is linked to from my talk page.

Notability

• "But the person/group/thing I was writing about was notable"

• Did you cite reliable sources and assert notability.

Context

• "What does an article need to have enough context not to be deleted?"

• It needs to say what the person/thing/group is at the very least. (ie. Bob Smith is the founder of Example enterprises)

• "But I don't have the time to write an article with context. Should I avoid contributing?"

• Definitely not! An article with context does not have to be long. See this for an example.

• "I'm a new contributor. Is there a page telling me how to write my first article?"

• Yes. See Wikipedia:Your first article.

General

• "OK, I see why my article had to be deleted, but can you give me a copy of the deleted article?"

• I can't give you one as I haven't got a copy of it, although if you ask someonle listed at Category:Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles you can probably get a copy from them, If it's not a copyright violation, libel, or personal information, and has not been deleted as a suspected WP:BLP . Note that using the text to recreate a deleted article automatically qualifies it for speedy deletion, and keeping deleted content hanging around in your userspace has gotten editors penalized before.

• "Why can't I copy articles from other websites?"

• "But I'm copying content from my own website. Is that allowed?"

• Yes, but please confirm that through OTRS.
