Famous individuals who used or were addicted to Heroin

Heroin has caused the downfalls of many celebrities careers, and even the death of a number of them. Some have have seemed unaffected in the slightest, whereas others not so much. Below is a list of celebrities that have used heroin in the past, or still do.

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman was born in Rochester, New York on July 23, 1967. Philip was passionate for sports from an early age, mostly basketball and wrestling. At the age of 14 he had suffered a neck injury, however, and that prematurely ended his sporting activities. though involved in music, he did not do so professionally,He did enjoy music in his leisure time though. At age 12 He developed a love for the theater and he began acting professionally in 1991. Philip attended Tisch School of the Arts. Hoffman started drugs at an early age, and the first time he got sober was at age 23.Philip actually died in February 2014 due to a mixture of heroin and cocaine. At 47 years old, Philip made one last movie before he died, and this movie was called 'A Most Wanted Man'. Philip had 3 kids, and he was actually working towards getting clean before he had died. Other famous movies by Philip include "The Hunger Games", "Capote", and "The Master".

  • Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. was born on April 4, 1965 in Manhattan, New York. Robert began acting at the ripe old age of five, and he appeared in his father's film Pound. Robert won his first stay at a rehabilitation center(California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility )for multiple drug charges. Robert struggled heavily with this dangerous opioid, and eventually was taken out of the show Ally McBeal in 2000 after two drug arrests. Robert is very open to his experience. Robert advocates for intervention, and has said to rolling stone magazine in 2010 regarding his addiction that "The only way out of that hopeless state is intervention.” Robert is most recently known for his role in Ironman, and he has said that he may not have been able to take the part if he was not getting clean at that time.

  • Macaulay Carson Culkin

We all know the famous child star from the two home alone movies, Macaulay Carson Culinary. Macaulay was born on August 26, 1980, in New York City. Culkin began acting at the age of four. His first roles had him appearing in a stage production of Bach Babies at the New York Philharmonic.  Since his childhood, Macaulay has been essentially a mystery. and after years of inactivity Macaulay begn actin again in 2000. Macaulay had a role in the play Madame Melville. Macaulay since has started a rock band entitled The Pizza Underground.

In conclusion, I feel it is important to emphasize the impact that heroin has on all people and not just celebrities. Not everyone is as lucky to tell the tale of addiction. Most people end up just as Philip Hoffman did, found dead due to an overdose. This is indeed a tragedy to see such promising lives and careers wasted by these unruly decisions.
