Râșcanu is a Romanian boyar family of Moldavian origin.[1][2]

Genealogist Gheorghe Ghibănescu consecrated, in 1915, the Râşcanu family the volume X of his series Surete and Izvoade.[3] In this volume, he published published the genealogical tree of the family,[3] which was later completed by the historian Gheorghe G. Bezviconi and then updated by the architect Dan Riscanu.

Family history[edit]

Originating from the mountainous regions of valley in the Carpathian Mountains, the Râșcanu emerged into a Boyar family. The origins of the name isuncertain.[4] The first "Râşcan" is recorded at the end of the 14th century during the time of Iuga Voda (brother of Bogdan I of Moldavia) who, after the armed brave - as chronicles says - "began to give his best to Dobri, Drăncălău, Baliţa, Murgu, Glog and Râşcanul".

The first official historical document that records members of the family is a story of Stephen the Great from 1500d[5]
