75th Anniversary of the Great Victory.

The 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory is the date on which people commemorate and celebrate 75 years since the victory of the Soviet army over Nazi Germany in World War II. Many CIS countries were going to held various public events, processions and victory parades in honor of this event on the 8-9th of May 2021. Nevertheless, some events were postponed or canceled in different countries due to the epidemiological situation of the COVID-19.

Historical context

The term "The Great Victory" refers to the defeat of German army in The World War II and the victory the Soviet army. World War II is generally considered to have begun on 1 September 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom.  When World War II started, the Soviet Union was effectively an ally of Nazi Germany in a relatively conventional European interstate war. However, on 22 June 1941 the Germans attacked the Soviet Union. That day the war between the Nazis and the Red army of Soviet Union officially began. The war in Europe concluded with an invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union, culminating in the capture of Berlin by Soviet troops, the suicide of Adolf Hitler and the German unconditional surrender on 8 May 1945.  World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. An estimated total of 70–85 million people perished, or about 3% of the 1940 world population (est. 2.3 billion).

The 75th Anniversary of the Great Victory in Russia

A solemn celebration was planned in the Russian Federation on May 9, 2021. The celebrations were to include in a military parade, a March of the immortal regiment and a Victory day salute on May 9, 2020. However, the military parade in Russia was held on June 24 and the March of the immortal regiment was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
