STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The reason why I decided to study the MBA Course is, since I’m a banker in a reputed leading commercial bank for more than 20 years in Sri Lanka, I will be working in an organization where the fields such as, Finance, Technology, Management and Marketing are involved. If I will be a qualifier with the MBA degree, I will be able to achieve the goals in a higher career path with greater responsibilities and ultimately a higher financial reward. Also being a great qualifier of the MBA degree I will be able to improve my communication and leadership skills which are vital for a successful profession and I will receive the following key career benefits as well.  New career positions If I earn the MBA degree, I will qualify in applying to higher career positions and increase the career opportunities available in the banking industry.

 New career paths Since I have been working in the banking industry for a long time, the new skills could easily be the catalyst that I need to kick start my transition to an another career path. The MBA degree may provide me the education and skills that I need to become a qualified candidate.

 Improvement of professional skills If I qualify with the MBA degree, it may improve my theoretical and practical knowledge of business operations along with soft skills such as communication, team work and leadership. Either promoting to a higher grade in my present career or planning to start my own business, having these set of skills would be the difference between the success and failure.

 Enjoy greater job security The skills I will develop from the MBA degree, will make me a valuable member of the bank and in any other team so if I choose to switch my career path, the business qualifications will travel with me increasing the probability of returning to a greater employment more quickly.

 Increment of earning potential After obtaining the MBA degree I can demand for a higher position of my current employment as well as in another company, with an increased monthly remuneration.

 Expansion of the professional network If I attend to a business school to obtain the MBA degree it will help me to develop a strong professional network, which will enable me to gain access to establish my own business organization.

 Recognition among professional & business community The MBA qualification is an asset to either my present employment or the business organization which I hope to commence. Also It will differentiate myself and I will be recognized among the professionals. ¬¬

 Stagnation in the current position and losing out the opportunities for promotions Since I have been working in the financial sector for more than 20 years, I am no longer stimulated and satisfied by the present work. Being honest I am stagnated in my position due to insufficient set of skills and paper qualifications. I believe it is important for me to step the next part of my professional journey.

 Clear career goal in mind Becoming a senior executive does not happen overnight. It requires a lot of hard work, tenacity and perseverance and unfortunately there are no shortcuts. I think the most common method among successful business leaders is their ability to step out from their comfort zone and continuously add new skills to their resumes. Even for a self-entrepreneur, the correct understanding of managing risks in a business organization can lead the particular company towards success. If I obtain the MBA degree, it will even help me for both successful and a better retirement.

 Availability of Part Time Executive MBA degree Since the part time MBA degree programme allows students to attend evening as well as weekend classes, it eliminates the need to disrupt their work schedules. Presently I am with significant management responsibilities with multiple years of professional experience, these part time schedules which are arranged to minimize my time away from the office are very helpful. The part time executive MBA degree suits me as I am in the mid-level Executive grade looking for strategic insight and management skills in order to step in to a higher grade. As I’m a mother of two sons who is planning to attend the part time MBA degree programme, I can find more time to spend with my family too.

I can say that the decision I have took to study the MBA degree is one of the wisest decisions that I have ever taken in my life. The reward I’m about to get from this investment has no boundaries.
