      Dr. Seuss
         Dr. Seuss was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904.  His real name was Theodor Geisel.  He attended Oxford University and got a doctorate in Literature.  (NEA).  He used his childhood memories to illustrate some of the scenes in his books.  He wrote 44 children's books and his most famous one is The Cat and the Hat.  Other books he wrote include, Green Eggs and Ham, Fox in Socks and Oh, the Places You'll Go. (Dr. Seusse National Memorial).  The Green Eggs and Ham book came as the result of a bet between he and a friend.  His friend bet him that he couldn't write a book using only fifty words, Dr. Seuss proved him wrong.
