The Polybian Society of the University of Pennsylvania is a collegiate political society. Envisioned as a nonpartisan alternative to political organizations around the university, the society was founded in 2013 as a branch of the university's Government and Politics Association to "increase the amount of political discourse on Penn's campus". The name Polybian is derived from the second-century Greek historian Polybius, who is renowned for his ideas concerning the separation of powers in government. The society's motto, sapere aude, challenges members to think critically. Weekly symposia are held every Thursday evening at the Polybian House.
