A Fat letter is a letter used by some schools to help reduce obesity rates among students.

Use[edit]

Schools in at least 20 states send fat letters to parents^[1] , including:

East Penn School District
Naples (FL) Middle School^[2]

Errors[edit]

Occasionally letters are sent to students that are not obese, based on BMI testing.^[2] This has drawn significant media attention, with the potential to cause body image problems and bullying.
