Jack Mertes in an American author.

Biography[edit]

Mertes graduated from East Peoria High School.

His first novel was the pulp novel “Yellow Rose of Texas,” at the age of 14.

He worked at the Peoria Public Library and at Hiram Walker for four years. He worked at Channel 19 and Channel 31, producing advertising and promotional copy before becoming a full-time writer.

A pulp novel of his, "Bobby Sox Sinners," was banned in Chicago in 1960.

In 1982, he published "Empress of Desire," an historical novel set in ancient Rome.^[1]
