Tapeley, Devon (Old English: Tapelie) was a village in Devon. The Tapley surname originated here.[1]
At the taking of the Domesday census in 1086, Tapeley was a small village that was held by Osbern, a Norman Baron, who held it from Geoffrey de Montbray, Bishop of Coutances.[2] In 1066 (pre-Conquest), it was held by Wulfeva of Norton.[3]
It was located in Fremington Hundred, Devon. Close to the River Yeo. Postcode: EX39[4]
Currently the area is located near Tapeley Park, established around 1704.
