Daisy cutter (horse racing) Also daisy clipper. In general, the term "daisy cutter" refers to a horse that keeps its hooves uncommonly close to the ground when trotting, moving its knees relatively little. The term comes from the idea that the horse is keeping its hooves so close to the ground, the hooves could cut daisy stems.
Daisy cutter movement, also called hunter movement, refers to this type of movement at the trot. Many equestrians regard daisy cutter movement as desirable in hunters.
