Before the Storm:

[edit]

This site has been created to present and journalize the history of Canadian bluegrass music. From the emergence of bluegrass music in the United States, mostly from the Appalachian mountain areas, Canadian musicians have been drawn to the excitement of the music, it's instrumentation, vocal expressiveness and dynamism. The first evidence of this music form in Canada began mostly in the early 1950's and it was remarkably consistent right across the country, with bluegrass music groups emerging on the East Coast, Quebec. Ontario and in the West within the same decade. The earliest recordings began to appear, as if by magic and the quality of some of those recordings was outstanding. Clearly, bluegrass music had been well-sown and was flourishing in a fertile ground in Canada.
