AthleteTimeline is used to summarise the seasons or major events of an athlete's or team's career or participation in a regular series of events, which are documented elsewhere on Wikipedia.

Usage

The template may be used by using the following basic format

Parameters

Parameter Required Description
sportSeries yes Defines the sport series or series of athletic events.

The parameter and capitalisation must match the Wikipedia pages for that series

e.g. sportSeries=Tour de France

e.g. sportSeries=Formula One season (note the capitalisation to match the Wikipedia pages)

debutYear yes The year of the athlete's first full or half season

e.g. debutYear=1980

athleteName no The name of the athlete as it should display in the template output

e.g. Valteri Bottas or BOT or Car number 77

If the parameter is blank, no name or link to the athlete page is displayed

athletePage no The name of the Wikipedia page on this athlete

The default is the athleteName provided

result1 yes Results are expressed as a series of special words:

Season Athlete contested this season or event.

HalfSeason Athlete participated in part of the season.

P3 Athlete took third place overall.

P2 Athlete took second place overall.

P1 Athlete took first place overall.

Break Athlete did not participate in this season or event, on a break or due to injury.

(All special words begin with a capital letter)

no Formatting is the same as result1. Each result is separate by a vertical bar (i.e. as a separate parameter).

For example:

currentSeason no If the athlete or sportsperson is competing in a current season or event, special words are used

currentlyRacing symbol CurrentlyRacing Displays a 'race start' green flag to symbolise the current season for motorsport.

currentlyCompetingWheel symbol CurrentlyCompetingWheel Displays a wheel to symbolise the current season for cycling and wheelchair athletics and sports.

currentlyBatting symbol CurrentlyBatting Displays a bat to symbolise the current season for batting games and events events.

CurrentlyDancing symbol CurrentlyDancing Displays a pair of toe-shoes to symbolise the current season for dance events.

currentlyPlayingRacket symbol CurrentlyPlayingRacket Displays a racket to symbolise the current season for racket sports and events.

currentlyPlayingBoot symbol CurrentlyPlayingBoot Displays a boot to symbolise the current season for footballs, field sports and running.

If used, the following parameter should be retired=no

retired no Is the athlete retired.

The default is retired=yes
