Barbara Schreiner[edit]

Barbara Schreiner is a South African author who was born in Johannesburg in 1958. She studied at the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg, the University of Lancaster in the UK where she completed an MA in Creative Writing, and the University of Cape Town where she completed an M.Phil in Environmental Science.

She was a cultural activist during the struggle against Apartheid and worked, inter alia, for the Congress of South African Writers. She has worked in the water sector in South Africa and internationally, in government, as a consultant and in the not-for-profit sector.

She has written published both non-fiction and fiction, the latter including poetry, a play, a novel and a children’s story.
