Asia Young (born January 1, 2003), known professionally as AsiaaYungg, is an American rapper.

Young first achieved internet fame after the release of her debut single "Hyponotizing", which was previously released on Soundcloud. She followed it with "Ain't Shit" and "Addicted", which later led to the release of her debut EP Trippin' (2021).[2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Asia Young was born on January 1, 2003, in the Bronx, New York City,[4][5][6] where she was raised in the Fordham Road neighborhood. She grew up along side fellow rapper and friend Ice Spice.[7][8][9][10]

Young graduated from Staten Island Technical High School in 2021 before getting accepted into State University of New York at Purchase, however she chose to not attend college.

Career[edit]

2019-2020: Career beginnings[edit]

Young began her rapping career in 2019 at the age of 16 after rapping over beats she purchased from numerous sites and uploading them to Soundcloud. Later in the year she learned how to make the beats herself, and became her own producer.[11] In May 2020, Young met producer StarMadeIt and they starting working on songs together.[12] Her song "Hypnotizing" gained traction on SoundCloud, which led her to officially release it in 2021.[13]

2021–present: Breakthrough with Trippin'[edit]

On April 9, 2021, Young released her debut single "Hypnotizing" as the lead single from her then-untitled debut EP, Trippin'. The song gained popularity going viral on TikTok.[7] It subsequently charted on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Bubbling Under Hot 100 charts.[14][15][8] In May 2021, she signed with Hollywould Records and released another single, "Ain't Shit".[16] On July 9, she released her breakthrough single "Addicted".[17] It became her first song on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 14. It was followed by her debut EP, Trippin', which was released on September 3, 2021, and included the singles "Hypnotizing" and "Addicted". Her song "Ain't Shit" wasn't added to the tracklist. According to Young, the song "didn't fit the theme."[18]

Artistry[edit]

Musical and lyrical style[edit]

Young's music is primarily Bronx drill.[19][20] Her stage name, AsiaaYungg, was extremely easy to think of according to Young, explaining "I just thought it would be cute, and it's basically my [real] name so it's recognizable".[21]

Personal life[edit]

Young began dating her now ex-boyfriend in 2020, however they broke up in early 2021 due to personal reasons. [22]
