Jacob Augustino Roberts professionally known as Barely Awake previously on stage as 734Jake, was born on September 22nd, 1994 in Grosse Point, Michigan a suburb of Detroit, is an American rapper, pop punk artist, and singer-songwriter. Barely Awake is musical artist who merges the worlds of rap, pop punk, and rock music. This music is a reflection of his diverse musical influences.
Roberts began his career late September 2022 when he collaborated with ScrollAMVs (Anime Music Videos) to dropped his first song titled Gothic Mansion[1] following a 6 year hiatus from releasing music. Following Gothic Mansion Barely Awake released his second song Ladybug, then Star Wars which currently stands on top of his Spotify as his most streamed song. Following Star Wars, Barely Awake consistently released new music each month, delivering a series of singles in succession: Upon A Star, Dead Butterflies, FWY (Maggots), I Stare At Paint And Watch It Dry, Written In Stone, I Miss Ohio, F*ck You Love Me, Cruel Summer, F*cked Up All Alone, Emo Lullaby. and wrapping 2023 up with Dear Maria, Count Me In (Rock Cover)
Early Life[edit]
Jacob Augustino Roberts was born on September 22nd, 1994, in Grosse Point, Michigan, and raised in Roseville, suburb north of Detroit, until he was 11. In his early years in Roseville played a significant role in shaping his artistic sensibilities. In his formative years, Roberts moved to Temperance, a serene town located north of Toledo, Ohio. This relocation marked a new chapter in his life, offering fresh experiences and perspectives that would later influence his musical career.
During his freshman year, Roberts, was enrolled at Saint Francis de Sales in Toledo, Ohio. However, due to academic challenges, he transferred to Bedford High School where he graduated in graduated in 2013. It was at Bedford High School where he formed a significant friendship with Ryku, who later produced Barely Awake's first two rap edm singles in early 2014/2015 " Bora Bora" and "No Explanation," that started his music career.
Musical Beginnings
From a young age, Barely Awake exhibited a natural flair for music. He officially started his music career at the age of 16, but his journey began much earlier. A significant influence in Barely Awake's early musical development was his close friend, Andy. Andy introduced him to the world of pop punk and rock music at a young age, opening his eyes to a genre that would deeply resonate with him. This introduction to pop punk and rock not only broadened his musical horizons but also ignited a profound love for rock music.
Before creating "Barely Awake," Jacob was known on stage as "Jake Roberts." During this phase of his career, "Jake Roberts" gained viral fame on Twitter for a "fast rap" video in 2013, which played a pivotal role in catapulting his early success. This exposure was instrumental in launching his unique blend of EDM and rap, a style that quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of streams on SoundCloud. Starting with his first song Bora Bora which was produced by Ryku. Following Bora Bora, Barely Awake and his team went down to Fort Wayne, Indiana where they recorded No Explanation (prod. Ryku). After releasing those two singles, Roberts went on a 6 year hiatus from releasing music. During this period he moved down to Palm Beach County, FL where he would go record all his music which appears on Spotify and create "Barely Awake".

On September 21, 2022, Roberts released his first single, "Gothic Mansion", an emo pop punk song reflecting on his own issues. On October 5, 2022, he released "Ladybug (Virgos)" an emo rap song about his internal demons and loving Virgos.
On October 19, 2022, he released his top charting song, Star Wars, an emo rap song about California girl twerking in a star wars shirt, lying about where she is from while Roberts ask that she does not break his heart. On December 1, 2022 Roberts wrapped the year up with his song "Upon A Star".
2023 - Present
On February 11, 2023, he released "Dead Butterflies" a song about anxiety and falling in love with someone who broke his heart. On March 3, 2023, he released "FWY (Maggots)" where he stated "to all of those teachers who said I'd never amount to nothing - I wrote you a song". On March 24, 2023, he released "I stare at paint and watch it dry" on May 16, 2023, he released "Written In Stone". On June 6, 2023, he released "I Miss Ohio" a song written about heartbreak in Ohio. On June 27, 2023, he released "F*ck You Love Me. On August 4, 2023, he released his first cover, by Taylor Swift "Cruel Summer". On November 7, 2023, he released "F*cked Up All Alone". On December 5, 2023, he released "Emo Lullaby". On December 18, 2023, he released his second cover, All Time Low's "Dear Maria, Count Me In".
