Articles

One group of students chose to expand the existing entry on Ola Rotimi's The Gods Are Not to Blame, while the other group will create an article on Rita Dove's The Darker Face of the Earth.

Timeline

November 3rd:

1. Welcome to Wikipedia - preview the Editing Wikipedia guide together.
2. Preview the Wikipedia Training [for Students].
3. Create a Wikipedia account (use a pseudonym, and read Wikipedia's username policy).
4. Enroll in course page (if available) & add to your Watchlist.
5. Create your User Page & Sandbox.
6. Assess guidelines (and other evaluation techniques via the Theatre Project page) alongside the Wiki article on The Island and Medea. Review talk pages for each article.
7. Determine play(s) we will create articles on, discuss possible "ways in" to the article.

November 10th:

1. Overview on using the Wikipedia "Talk" pages.
2. Review the WikiProject Theatre page.
3. Creating Summaries in GoogleDocs.
4. How to avoid plagiarism (see Wikipedia's guide as well).
5. Practice leaving messages and signing posts on User pages (among the class). If you want to show some Wiki Love: Go to the user talk page of the Wikipedian you wish to send some WikiLove. On the top right, you will see a heart symbol. Click on it, choose an image from the menu, type a message, preview your WikiLove, then click "Send WikiLove."
6. Review available articles and sources.
7. Read the Evaluating Wikipedia guide.
8. For next class: finish plot synopsis, review the article AND talk pages for Medea, Oedipus, and Antigone. Review our Zotero library and choose texts you want to read/summarize.

November 13th (non-lab day):

1. Reviewing summaries in GoogleDocs - discussing transferring to Sandboxes.
2. Research Workshop: discuss citing sources and article reviews/summaries.
3. Review Citing Sources Tutorial 1 & 2.
4. Divide & conquer: research assignments.

November 17th (lab day):

1. Create article (or begin to expand). Writing/editing day.
2. Set up GoogleDocs for editors.
3. Move GoogleDocs to Sandbox for Wiki markup.

November 19th (non-lab day):

1. Class editing session of article content.

November 24th (lab day):

1. Expand articles: move material from sandbox onto Wikipedia page.
2. Make sure all citations are in MLA (double check using LaGuardia Library's MLA guide.)

This schedule is still under construction, as much of our progress will be determined by any roadblocks/demands we encounter as we go!
