Okaku Village[edit]

Okaku is a village in Oshana Region of the northern Namibia and district capital of Okaku electoral constituency. It lie just outside Ondangwa. It is one of the place of residence of the former minister of mine and energy Hon. Henock yaKasita. Most of the residents of this village speak oshindonga. Okaku is under the authority of Ondonga, raised by Andreas Kaweendwa(headman). The councillor of this village is Mr Joseph Kapya Enjala.

Development in Okaku village[edit]

Lot of development is found in Okaku village. One of the significant development achievement in Okaku is the provision of clean drinking water to all schools,churches, hospitals and villages near the area. Giving an overview of the development activities in the village, Okaku councillor Joseph Kapya Enjala noted that meaningful progress has been made in adressing the basic needs of people. Okaku has also achieved to provide electicity in schools, clinics, churches and some of the houses. In Okaku there are toilets all over the village, almost each of the house is provided with a toilet especially in the houses where there are old people. Okaku has one combined school (Nengushe combined school), one primary school (Okaku primary school), and two kindergarden. There is also a police post that assist people in the village instead of going at the main branch in Ondangwa. There is also a church and a clinic, cucashops and gravel road that is from the main road to Ongha road. There are lot of projects that many of the village member participate in them.Many different animals are found in this village especial domestic animals like cattle, goats ,sheeps and horses. People in this village take care of their animals and feed them. They use animals to plough in their field and they use the waste (dugs) to put in their field as nuntrients. People in this village don't depend in foods that come from the councillor's office but they harvest omahangu, maize,beans and groundnuts in their fields for better living.

Environmental effects[edit]

Okaku is a typical rural-based area and like many other parts of Oshana region, it was severelry affected by heavy rains and flooding this year. One of its lifeline gravel roads, the 35 kilometer Okapya-Ongha road, was washed away by flood that rendered it impassable to users travelling in and out of the village.
