Kane Lewis (born 17 March 1998) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender.

Lewis is a product of the Brentford and Liverpool academies and began his senior career in Wales with The New Saints and Cefn Druids. He moved into non-League football in 2022.

Career

[edit]

Liverpool

[edit]

A centre back or right back,[2] Lewis began his career in the academy at Brentford, but failed to win a scholarship deal and entered the academy at Premier League club Liverpool during the 2014 off-season.[3] He was a regular in the U18 team and progressed to sign a one-year professional contract on 29 June 2016,[3][4] but he failed to break into the U23 team and was released at the end of the 2016–17 season.[5][6]

The New Saints

[edit]

After a non-playing spell with Whitehawk and a brief return to Brentford during the 2017–18 season,[7][8] Lewis signed a contract with Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints on 30 May 2018.[9] He made 23 appearances and scored one goal during the 2018–19 Welsh Premier League and Welsh Cup double-winning season.[10][11] Lewis was retained for 2019–20,[12] but made just eight appearances before the COVID-19 pandemic caused the season to end prematurely.[10][13] He was released in July 2020 and made 32 appearances, scoring one goal, during two seasons at Park Hall.[14][10]

Cefn Druids and non-League football

[edit]

In September 2021, Lewis returned to football with Cymru Premier club Cefn Druids.[15] He made just two appearances and after nearly another year out of the game,[10] he joined Southern League Premier Division Central club St Ives Town in August 2022.[16] He made 13 appearances before joining National League South club Hemel Hempstead Town on dual-registration terms in January 2023.[17][18] He made just five appearances during the remainder of the 2022–23 season.[10]
