Becka Thompson is an educator, politician, poet and actress. She is an alumna of famed Juilliard School in New York City and an elected official in the city of Minneapolis.

Becka was born Rebeccah Ruth Anne Thompson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the middle of three children of Dr. Joel and Patricia Thompson. Her older sister is a surgeon at the Mayo Clinic.

After completing her BS in Mathematics at the University of Minnesota, Becka was a student of group 31 at the Juilliard School. Her classmates and collaborators included Jennifer Carpenter, Ryan Bittle, Daniel Breaker, James Martinez, Jessica Chastain, Lee Pace, Anthony Mackie, Tracie Thoms and many others.

She left New York after being offered a film with Alon Aranya called 'Connecting Dots' starring Becka, Noa Tishby, Nikolai Kinski and Shane Brolley.

After work in several television shows and independent films, including 'Exit 9' with a young Michael Cera, Becka became disolutioned with Hollywood and began her career as a teacher of both mathematics and theater.

She started at the Marlborough School in Los Angeles' Hancock Park neighborhood. There she taught and coached Kate Grace, Sasha Spielberg, Elissa Karasik and many others. She then began working at The Oakwood School in North Hollywood teaching Aric Van Halen of the Van Halen family legacy. During this time she also played on storied director Garry Marshall's 'Falcon Theater Softball Team'.

When her son was born she moved back to Minneapolis with her then husband Ben Linder. Her students then included Chet Holmgren, Jalen Suggs and Tyrell Terry at Minnehaha Academy.

Becka's heart has always been for the marginalized. When her dear friend and Juilliard classmate Toi Perkins passed away from a very aggressive form of cancer in 2014, Becka shifted away from private schools and to working with inner city kids.

in 2021, after the events unfolding following the death of George Floyd, Becka ran for public office. She won a seat on the Minneapolis Park Board representing North Minneapolis, the most ethnically diverse population in the state of Minnesota.

In 2015 Becka publicly 'came out' and started the process of divorce. She is active in LGBTQ causes especially when it comes to protecting children.

Becka has run 13 marathons and completed one Iron distance triathlon. She has summited Mt. Kilimonjaro. She speaks three languages.

In 2019 she completed her Masters of Arts in Education and the following year completed her Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance.

She has written 4 books including a volume of poetry and a science fiction trilogy for middle school aged readers.
