PAS 324: Black Women in Contemporary Times

Group Presentation: Group 7[edit]

Sister Citizen by Melissa V. Harris-Perry explains America as itself being a crooked room in which African American women have to live in . Living in the twentieth century we still see events that are unfortunate for an African American women. The stereotypes that were created in history still direct the lives that these women live. In Chapter 1 & 2 we see how women have to scarify being themselves to be accepted by society. Identities like Mammy, Jezebel, and Sapphire, and Welfare cheats are all stereotypes that follow them throughout their lives.
