Ben Hjorth is a queer scholar, writer, performer and activist, originating as a settler on Wurundjeri land (Melbourne, Australia) and currently a transplant on Anishinaabe land in Tkaronto, Turtle Island, where he is a PhD candidate in the Centre for Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto, a settler institution on the territory of the Dish With One Spoon Treaty. He edited the 2017/2018 volumes of S: Journal of the Circle for Lacanian Ideology Critique, has previously published in Performance Research and Senses of Cinema, and has curated a range of academic and cultural events across Australia, France, Slovenia and Canada. He chooses to believe in the impossible and necessary victory of the commons over the private self-interest enshrined in and perpetuated by capital.
