BugUp Tracker, a part of the informUp software management suite, is a bug-tracking system written in ASP.NET/C#. The system is mainly used to track and recored bugs within the development process, untill resolution is at hand. Released in 2005 by informUp, BugUp Tracker was created out of Gal Matalon's need to register and follow QA cycles, eventually evovling into a full system, distributed as a shareware or a Freeware for specific users.
Technology
[edit]BugUp Tracker is a web based application built using ASP.NET/C# and runs on Windows systems with IIS, with data stored in Access and SQL.
History
[edit]As a seasoned QA Manager, Gal Matalon had to use a variety of bug tracking tools, both high and low end. It became apparent to him that the inexpensive tools provided only partial solutions to his requirements, and when the requirements changed, or the company grew, the tools could not be adapted to meet the changing needs. Ease of use was also not featured on most systems. The more expensive tools presented two challenges; as the company grew and more licenses were needed, the price for the extra licenses was too high. The company got around this by sharing licenses between users, which was difficult and counter productive. The other challenge faced was the need for a large investment managing the tool.
Functionality
[edit]Gal founded informUp for the purpose of creating a tool with the following guiding principles: the cost of the tool should be appropriate for a small, yet growing company, so it won’t force an organization to use fewer licenses than it actually needed. Ease of use; both the Administrative and End User functionality should be simple, intuitive and require little or no training at all. Scalability; the tool should be scalable and capable of serving an organization of 50-200 users. The product has been implemented two companies that Gal has worked with as QA Manager; during the past three years the product has been fine-tuned in a real-life environment and gone through extensive Beta testing.
Interface
[edit]BugUp Tracker has a web-based interface. The software's interface allows users to easily customize structure of screens by adding and subtracting fields and creating new ones as required. A powerful rule engine assists in determining which items should create notifications. An email notification system, included inside the application, generates emails according to the specified rules. For example, A bug's status is changed from Priority: High to Priority:Critical. An email message is generated and sent to the specified recipient.
