The unincorporated community of LaVista Hills was formed in 2014 and was put into law by the Georgia General Assembly on April 14, 2015, and signed into law by Governor Deal on May 12, 2015, Act No. 242. The county elections board was to hold a referendum on November 3, 2015, for voters to decide whether or not they wished to incorporate LaVista Hills, but their flawed effort to do so resulted in a State investigation by the GBI and Secretary of State forensic investigators, on November 5, 2015, Case No. SEB2015-085, prior to any report of election being submitted to the State. The Atlanta Journal Constitution article describing the seizure and opening of investigation may be found at: http://www.ajc.com/news/news/dekalb-countys-lavista-hills-election-investigated/npG8k/ Being the subject of a criminal investigation placed the referendum and any perceived result in legal abeyance from that point forward.
As of March 2016, the community of LaVista Hills as defined by law remains unincorporated, awaiting the outcome of the State of Georgia's investigation into alleged criminal activity prior to completion of the referendum's conduct, as described in the news article above. This page will be updated after such time as the investigation and referendum have been completed. Meanwhile the community of LaVista Hills continues to thrive as part of Georgia's second largest county and the metro-Atlanta area.
