From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The U.S. Women's Open is an annual golf competition held in early-July. It was established in 1946 and one of the four women's major championships played each year which include the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship, and the Women's British Open.[1] This event has always been conducted in stroke play with the lone exception of the first competition in 1946, and is always the third women's major of the year.[1]

Betsy Rawls and Mickey Wright hold the record for the most victories with four, and Mickey Wright, Susie Berning, Hollis Stacy, Annika Sörenstam, Donna Caponi, Betsy King and Karrie Webb with two consecutive wins.[1] The lowest score for 72-holes is 16-under par by Juli Inkster in 1999, and the lowest aggregate is at 272 by Sörenstam in 1996 and Inkster in 1999.[1]
