The Women's British Open is an annual golf competition held at the end of July start of Augustl. It was established in 1976, which it did not become a major championship until 2001, and one of the four women's major championships played each year that includes the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship, and the U.S. Women's Open. This event has always been conducted in stroke play competition, and is always the fourth and last women's major of the year.

As a major championship, their has been no repeat winners. The lowest winning score is Karen Stupples's 19-under par 269 aggregate in 2004.
