Written Test[edit]

Please leave your response to each question where indicated.

  1. What is consensus, and how does it apply to Wikipedia policies?
A:Consensus is the name of wikipedia's group decision making protocols. It applies to policies in the sense that policies may be applied and changed using a broad consensus.
  2. You revert something thinking it's vandalism, but you get a rather irate reply on your talk page: "That's not vandalism! This is a serious fact covered my many research articles! How dare you accuse me of (insert type of vandalism here, as well as more complaints)!" You check, and sure enough, he's right. What do you do?
    A: I would
    • apologise for a lack of WP:BEFORE
    • roll back my edit,
    • point out that he should have added an inline citations to assure future readers of the source, accuracey, and merit of this information.
    • add some of the citation myself.
  3. You add a PROD tag to an article as it doesn't seem to be notable, but the article gets blanked entirely by the author (who was the only substantial contributor to the article). What should you do?
    A:Add a G7 CSD using {{db-blanked}}.
  4. You nominate an article for speedy deletion as a copyright violation. Two minutes later, the CSD tag was removed by the page creator. What should you do?
A:I would check out who the user is.
    • If he is an admin I would respond directly that he is in violation of policy.
    • Otherwise I would leave a message on the user's talk page that he as the creator is barred from reming the CSD notice.
    • If this has no results I'd also post a notice to the Admin Noticeboard ad request assistence.
  5. I found an image on a website of a person that could be really useful in an article I'm writing about them. The website says that the image has been released into the public domain, so what should I do to upload it to Wikipedia?
A:basicaly if the image is in the public domain it can be used on wikipedia. Uploading is straight forward - just use the same licence as the web site provided and list it as the source.
  6. Name the three "core content policies" on Wikipedia and what they mean.
    A:
    • WP:NPOV - that information must be written from a neutral point of view.
    • WP:V - that information in wikipedia can be verified.
    • WP:NOR - no original research menas that wikipedia sources of knowledge that are already published in other sources - prefrebly good academic sources.
  7. You want to upload an image under a claim of fair use. Can you upload the image to Wikimedia Commons? Why or why not?
A:You cannot - Wikipedia commons does not allow images under fair usefair use.
  8. If I wrote a template "foo" with this code, what would be displayed when I called it like this: {{subst:foo|article=Lorem Ipsum|Thanks again!}}?
    Thanks for helping with [[{{{article|that article}}}]]! It's a great help. {{{1|}}} <includeonly>~~</includeonly>~~
A: Thank you for helping with Lorem Ipsum! It's a great help. Thanks again! + your signature
  9. A user has been behaving really badly on Wikipedia. Talking to the user about the issue does not solve the problem. What should you do?
A:Well the important point is what he does. Behaving badly is allowed. But violating policy is not. So it comes down to what he has done and how disruptive it is. Edits can be rolled back - this can have a sobering effeect and may teach him - using the school of hard knocks. If however the user is a vandal it is possible to report him to an admin who will block him and later ban him. However I would not make a crusade out of this since it other opinions are also important.
  10. What do you wish to become on Wikipedia in the future? Probably an administrator? Or just a regular productive editor?
A: Both. I need to become an admin so I can develop admin bots, to mitigate some productivity issues. But I hope to remain productive as an editor and to coach some new comers users as well.
