Sustainability

The currently trendy concept of “sustainability” is not new. The discussion of sustainable development started more than two decades ago, however, as a political tool sustainability has only recently (within the past decade) begun to have significant power in the [1] The global energy price spike of 2008 served as a glimpse of a possible future for the U.S. and for the state of Indiana. As the cost of crude oil and other fuels rose, the price of other commodity items followed, leading to an increase in prices for consumer goods ranging from luxury electronic items to primary needs like food and clothing. Throughout the country citizens began to cut back on gasoline usage, choosing to drive less, buy more efficient or alternative fuel cars, or take public transportation where possible.
