Jean Marshall Author and illustrator of the Granny Porage series of children's books.
After a varied career as a primary school teacher, violin tutor, arist, knitwear designer, Jean "retired" in 1987 (when she was 60) and moved with her husband Jesse to a chalet at Otter Ferry, Argyll, on the east shore of Loch Fyne. Here she continued to paint (watercolour and oil, landscapes and portraits), and she also played her viola on Sundays to accompany the hyms sung at Kilfinan church. As they became established in the area Jesse and Jean bought a shop in Tighnabruaich to sell pictures, prints, and art materials, and Jean gave painting lessons and started an art club which continues to meet. In 1994 Jesse and Jean moved into Millhouse, a village close to Tighnabruaich, with good transport links by bus to Dunoon, and by bus and ferry to Tarbert (Kintyre) and Rothesay (Isle of Bute).
