Brief Intro[edit]

My name is Brigitte Laliberté. I am a Canadian national, joined Bioversity International in 1996, based in Rome, Italy. I am a Scientist in Cacao Genetic Resources and Diversity. I coordinate the Cocoa of Excellence(CoEx)Programme and International Cocoa Awards (ICA) and the Global Network for Cacao Genetic Resources (CacaoNet). I have over 30 years of professional experience in agricultural science and international development, particularly in agro-biodiversity and crop genetic diversity. I coordinated the development of the Global Strategy for the Conservation and Use of Cacao Genetic Resources lead by CacaoNet published in 2012. From 2003-2007, I coordinated the development of more than 20 regional and global crop strategies guiding the allocations of funds from the Global Crop Diversity Trust. I also worked closely with the 11 international crop genebanks of the CGIAR between 2007-2010 as the coordinator of a large World Bank funded project. My academic background is in agricultural sciences from McGill University, Canada and crop genetic resources conservation and use from Birmingham University, UK.
