Early years and education

[edit]

Born to Aaron Baker Danner (1857-1945) and Melissa L. (nee Moore) (1863-1890) in Astoria, Illinois, Harris L. Danner graduated from Valparaiso University,[a] and began working as a school teacher in rural schools in Schuyler County, Illinois. In 1909, young Danner had settled in Oklahoma, where he was admitted to the bar. He moved to Oklahoma City by 1912, when he formed a law partnership with John H. Shirk, appropriately named Shirk & Danner.[1]

Military service and civilian career

[edit]

During World War I, Danner served as a private in the U.S. Army, and continued to serve in the Army Reserves, rising to the rank of Captain before his death. In 1920, the State Bar Commission named him as Chairman for a one-year term. He also became a member of the State Bar Examiners and served as president during 1935.[2]

Death

[edit]

Danner's corpse was found Tuesday, January 7, 1941, a few hours after he was shot in his home at 1602 Drury Lane, in the Nichols Hill area of Oklahoma City. The body was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, then was interred in Abbey Mausoleum at Rose Hill Cemetery. No details about his death were published. Survivors included his wife, Helen D. (nee Trueblood) Zorn; father, A. D. Danner; brother, Clint Danner; two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Loring and Mrs. Joseph Aubuschon.[2]
