Add to Taste

[edit]

Unlike pain (nociception), smell (olfaction), and other senses, taste is the only of the special senses that is not acquired/learned, but that is innate at birth, for evolutionary survival reasons:

  1. saltiness (sodium or potassium ions) is needed for cellular function
  2. sweetness (sugar, which can be converted to glucose) for sustenance
  3. sourness (acidity/concentration of hydrogen ions) - to not throw off pH of blood
  4. bitterness (a catch-all for all other types of molecules) - to avoid any unknown poisons/toxins that might be deadly

St. John's Episcopal Church was originally founded in 1804 by the same Episcopal deacon who founded the city in which the church resides, Worthington, Ohio, and for whom a nearby high school (Worthington Kilbourne High School) and middle school (Kilbourne Middle School) are named. It was the first Episcopal church built west of the Allegheny Mountains, built between 1827-1831, with Kilbourne Hall (the parish house) built in 1927 and the church's Early Education Center built in 1962.

"Can you hear my voice uselessly swallowed up by the darkness? If this world has any meaning, does my feeling like this also mean something? Squashed by my aspirations, I was giving up, without even knowing the colors of this boundless sky. Because I can still feel my heart knocking on my chest just like when it all started. The person I am today will build our own tomorrow. Yes, the answer is always right here."
