Colégio Santiago Internacional (abbreviated as CSi) is a co-educational independent international day school located in Tavira, in the Algarve area of Portugal. It was founded in 2012 with the aim of providing a quality education to all students.

Vision and mission

The school's vision is to differentiate and personalise the delivery of the curriculum to encourage and empower the students to reach their full potential and contribute as global citizens.

By achieving a balance between academic, social, cultural and physical activities, CSi's purpose is to create a stimulating and active learning environment within which all members of our community can achieve their full potential. CSi aims to foster our students’ intellectual curiosity which will last throughout their lives.

School

The school opened on September 2012 in the buildings of the Santa Casa Misericórdia, where the Tavira Hospital was located. The buildings were completely remodeled to accommodate the school facilities while maintaining all of the 15th century charm. It is an international school, which follows an English curriculum up to IGCSE, AS and A Level Edexcel exams.

The school opened with a small number and pupils and it continues growing each year, always keeping in mind that the pupils are the most important and by achieving a balance between academic, social, cultural and physical activities, CSi's purpose is to create a stimulating and active learning environment within which all members of the community will achive their full potential. CSi aims to fosters the students' intellectual curiosity which lasts throughout their lives.

Leadership and management

CSi is run by the founder of the school, Ana Alves (MA Ed Leadership and Management, BA Hons Mathematics Education), who is also the Head Teacher and the Mathematics and Business Studies Teacher, and Anthony Guy Smalley, the Governor and Director. Other members of the leadership team include Deputy Head Teacher, Ana Cristina Gonçalves and Assistant Deputy Head Teacher, Vera Gonçalves.

Location

The school is located in Tavira, Algarve. It is a few minutes walking distance to the historical centre of Tavira and Gilão River. Tavira is a town and municipality situated in the east Algarve, with a population of some 26.167.

Curriculum

CSi follows the international English curriculum. The subjects which are currently offered at AS/A Level are:

Humanities English Language, Portuguese, Spanish, Sociology
Sciences Biology, Physics, Chemistry
Statistical Sciences Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics, Business Studies

School Terms

There are three academic terms in the year:

  • Autumn Term - from early September to mid December
  • Spring Term - from early January to late March
  • Summer Term - from early April to late June
