Elinor Clare Millais (née Macdonell) (18 February 1902 – 3 August 1953) was a French-Canadian heiress and huntress who famously married British painter Raoul Millais, grandson of Sir John Everett Millais.[1][2] Macdonell was the granddaughter of Irish-Canadian industrialist John Ryan and daughter of Helen Margaret Ryan and railway magnate Allan Ronald Macdonell.

Elinor Clare Macdonell was the granddaughter of Irish-Canadian industrialist and cattle-racher John Ryan, co-founder of railway development firm H. & J. Ryan.
Macdonell's mother was socialite Helen Margaret "Nellie" Ryan, the niece and heir of Toronto-based millionaire Hugh Ryan. Macdonell's father was Allan Ronald "A.R." Macdonell, a prominent Montreal-based railway magnate and engineer. Macdonell had six siblings: Flora Aileen "Dorrie" Macdonell, Helen Martha Macdonell, Katherine Isabelle Macdonell, Colonel John Macdonell, Hugh Ronald Macdonell and Allan Roderick Macdonell.
Engagement & Marriage[edit]
Elinor Clare Macdonell married Raoul Millais on 28 April 1926 in a "picturesque wedding" at the Brompton Oratory in London, England. MacDonell's wedding assemble featured a silver embroidered gown and an elaborate silver and tulle veil –paired with a pearl coronet adorned with mother-of-pearl orange blossoms– was praised in the Evening Standard and other British press.[3]
