March Superturbo[edit]

The March Superturbo (ST) was an automobile made by Nissan Motors from 1989 to 1991. It was based on the EK10 Nissan Micra, and modelled after the 1988 Nissan March R.

Outline[edit]

It was a homologation project for the racecar, and was a daring move, placing a 930cc car in the 1600cc class; it was restricted to this displacement because it had forced induction.

It shared the MA09ERT engine with the March R rally car, generating 110ps at 6,400rpm and maximum torque of 13.3kgm at 4,800rpm. It was among very few cars, others including the famous Lancia Delta S4, and the 2006 Volkswagen Golf GT in having a supercharger and turbocharger installed as standard, and was one of even fewer standard production cars to have such an arrangement.

It combined high-RPM power with low-RPM torque, providing a well spaced powercurve that suited its intended purpose admirably, delivered with a viscous LSD system to the front wheels.

All March Superturbos were equipped with electronic fuel injection (EGI/ECCS), as opposed to the standard K10 Nissan Micra, which was fitted with a carburetor.

They had a carefully minimised interior and no power steering, owing to a lack of space in the engine bay.

Explanation[edit]

The MA09ERT engine: MA10ET, and the basic structure is the same four water-cooled series cylinders OHC, and is V type valve arrangement crossing flow Shaiki port, and hemisphere type combustion chambers. The fuel jet system is a sequential injection. The supplement one's salary system has the maximum feature. "Double charge" of supercharger + turbo-charger.

This compound supercharger system is the first in Japan as a car on the market. It extends from the low rotation region to the high rotation region to the whole area, and it can be called an ultimate supercharging system that obtains a high torque and the high response. That is, SC chiefly improves supercharging, a low-speed torque, and the response in the low rotation zone where TC doesn't work easily and the acceleration performance of none is drawn out at the time lag.
