DramaQueen is a software for developing and writing movie scripts, novels and theatre plays. Since 2014 the application is available in English and German and can be installed on Windows, macOS, and GNU/Linux. Its graphical user interface is suited for professional and self taught writers alike. DramaQueen uses the filename extension .dq.
The developer and destributor of the software is the DramaQueen GmbH, founded by screenwriters/filmmakers who were fellow students of the Film University of Potsdam Babelsberg.[1].
The application is available as a free basic version[2] and two paid versions.
Complementary to the software, the developer offers a free online lexicon on the subjects storytelling, dramaturgy and writing fiction stories.[3]
Usage
[edit]DramaQueen faciliates the creative writing process from idea stage to the final book version. The tools cover the areas story development, formatting and layout, rewrite and analysis of the story's dramatic architecture. The software offers multiple ways to structure the story (for example acts, chapters, plot points, sequences, scenes, steps, beats) and offers advice in storytelling and character development.
A number of working texts can be created alongside the main text (plot, outlines, treatment/concept, notes, annotations). Characters, locations and subplots are automatically detected and created as elements of the story.
The software's underlying principle is the connection of all texts and elements of a DramaQueen document. With the meta-information derived from this process, the dramatic architecture of the story can be visualized graphically and reports and statistics can be generated.
