Situation Group is a collective of marketing and advertising entities headquartered in New York City.[2] Founded by Damian Bazadona in 2001 as an internet marketing consulting firm, Situation now specializes primarily in digital marketing for Broadway & live entertainment.
History[edit]
Situation Group was launched in 2001[3] as Situation Marketing,[4] an internet strategy and consulting group.[5] Five years later, Situation was handling more than half of all new Broadway shows.[6] Early work included titles such as Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, and The Drowsy Chaperone.[7]
In 2008 the agency (by then Situation Interactive) was noted for their work with shows such as Blue Man Group, Mamma Mia!, and Billy Elliot.[8] In August of that year, Situation would establish a branch in Las Vegas.[9] This was followed by the opening of their Los Angeles, California branch the next year.[10] Clients in California would include L.A.'s Center Theatre Group and Shorenstein Hays Nederlander in the Bay Area.[11]
By 2010, Situation was credited for representing 100+ Broadway shows, in addition to arts organizations, including the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Opera.[12]
Offices in L.A. and Las Vegas would eventually close. However, in February of 2020, Siuation UK was incorporated and currently serves a client base of London's West End theatre.[13]
In 2023, it was announced that Situation would collaborate with NYU's Tisch Department of Drama to offer a theater marketing course in the Spring 2024 semester.[14]
Divisions[edit]
Situation Group comprises three key divisions, each catering to specific sectors.[15]
Situation[edit]
Situation serves as the domain for live entertainment, attractions, theatre, sports, art, and cultural institutions within Situation Group,[16] catering to clients such as Wicked and the Roundabout Theatre Company.[17]
Town Hall[edit]
Town Hall is dedicated to education and nonprofit clients,[15] and extends the services of Situation Group to diverse sectors.[16]
The Studio at Situation[edit]
The Studio at Situation functions as a hub for design, technology, project management, and more. It supports the entire company.[17]
Situation Project[edit]
Situation Project is the agency's philanthropic initiative with a mission to provide arts-deprived public-school students access to New York City's world-class arts and culture.[18][19] The project delivers a minimum of two experiences annually to each student, integrating technology with the arts to inspire future leaders.[20]
Back in 2015 the Situation Project pledged funds to pay for five years' worth of arts programming.[21]
In 2024, Situation Project was the recipient of a Silver Anthem Award, selected alongside initiatives by PBS, Human Rights Watch, GLAAD, and many others.[18]
