Me[edit]

I am a college student of Religion, primarily Hinduism.

Goals[edit]

I plan to establish and implement a standard for transliteration and introduction of Sanskrit terminology in Hinduism articles. Possibly expand this to Pāli and Buddhist terminology as time allows.

Problems[edit]

There are currently two pages upon which naming schemes can be found for Indic languages - while other languages using non-latin scripts have manuals of style dedicated to transliteration (such as Arabic), there is no such system for Sanskrit or Hindi, much less for other less widespread Indic languages.

Wikipedia Standard[edit]

This standard has thus far been used only occasionally - it is the one I hope to improve and expand, as well as eventually implement to all relevant articles.

Use this when you have the original script text, transliteration and IPA but do not have the audio pronunciation. This is likely to be the most used format.

'''Simplified Transliteration''' ({{indic | lang=Language code | defaultipa=English IPA text | indic=Indic Text | trans=ISO Transliteration | indicipa=Indic IPA text }}) ...

Buddhipriya had a similar goal, but now seems to be inactive. Here are some of his contributions that I plan to expand upon.
