Hello!

[edit]

I guess I'm here now? Yonks ago, back in the dark ages (March 2022) I got my first taste of Wikipedia. I then proceeded to do absolutely nothing for over a year until my sister pointed out the rather gaping hole that was Ian McKellen's role in the Tales of the City (2019) series, so I whacked it on the page of stuff he was in.

Not long after, I got bored one night and decided to look into citation hunting (something I really recommend if you're hard up for things to do). That then evolved into some dabbling in recent change patrols around 24 August 2023. At around 1330 BST on 28 August I was introduced to the existence of pee curl by a user on a Discord I'm in and realised very quickly that it was rather much in need of some more content. So that's what I spent the next several hours of my life obsessing over. The history of Dutch public toilet infrastructure and the history of the pissoir. In fact, I dedicated anywhere between 4-5 hours on it. Public toilets. 4-5 hours. Just let that sink in for a bit.

That major edit would prove to be the turning point, from then on I began editing in earnest on Wikipedia, mainly focusing on recent change patrols and the occasional citation hunt.

The likelihood is that what brought you to this page or my talk page is I've reverted something you've done due to it flagging up on recent changes. I can assure you that yes there's a non-zero chance that I reverted your edit in error and I can also assure you that I am most certainly trying to beat Cluebot to the punch. Have your trusty trout at the ready and feel free to slap me with it if I've actually reverted your edit in error. There's also a non-zero chance that you're here because you've seen me reverting someone's edit before you could get to it. If that's the case, hello! Lovely to see a fellow RCP.

Interests

[edit]

If it wasn't already obvious from my legion of userboxes, I'm pretty interested in dealing with vandalism and making sure that people cite the information that they're adding on Wikipedia. As such, I spend the majority of my time on Wikipedia doing just that. Failing that, there's a slight chance that you'll find me editing something relating to the video games WikiProject. Video games are something that've held a pretty big spot in my heart since I was a young'un, so when I'm hard up on things to do I'll look through the never-ending list of stubs and pick out something that seems like it'd be interesting.

Off Wikipedia, I spend most of my time either playing video games or riding around on my skateboard; it's a weird sort of mash-up of a cruiser board and a popsicle deck, because why not. If I ever wanted to I could probably learn to do tricks with it, but with 60mm 78a's it's incredibly comfortable to just cruise around on.

I started skateboarding on what was essentially a toy skateboard back in 2022. It cost maybe £10-20, but I definitely learned my lesson on that. The thing damn near fell apart under any adverse conditions, it felt really weird to ride (trust me, you can tell the difference, I sure as hell did when I got a professionally made deck and it all came together) with the "grip tape" basically just being sandpaper and the front truck actually snapping in two while I was practicing with it one day. I bought some new trucks to slap on it and... Of course they didn't fit. Toy skateboards do not in the slightest match up with professionally made decks and trucks in sizing, it really is like night and day. That old deck either acted as firewood or is hopefully somewhere in Africa getting a new lease on life, and for that I wish it well.

I also took up learning a new language, Russian. I've previously looked into taking other languages such as French, Spanish, Scottish Gaelic and Welsh, but they've always fell by the wayside. Hell, I even tried learning Russian several years ago and that fell off too, but since Gorbachev died (and the fact that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was ongoing) I picked it up again and weirdly just never stopped. My motivation to learn is... Lacking at times, but sometimes I do get spurts of energy where I'll slam out several lessons on Duolingo. Now, this isn't to say you're going to find me on Russian Wikipedia, my understanding is very basic... But it's still there so into the languages section it goes.

To improve

  • KWIX - Article needs improvement across the board, really. Large amounts of content that's unsourced.
  • Marita Geraghty - Initially want to properly format the filmography, but more information about her life generally would be nice.
  • Raymond Dronne - Seems as if it may be able to be expanded, if not just properly cited.
  • Special Victims Unit - Focused on the New York Police Department's Special Victims Division, not the (likely) many other variants across the US.

I second this! I was astonished to see how much you expanded that article over the past 24 hours. Of course, I expected some expansion but I never thought of a huge expansion! It's definitely one of the quickest and biggest expansions I've seen. I appreciate your time to expand this article; I'm impressed and grateful you've completed this article in Vami's honor. Thanks, ~ Tails Wx (🐾, me!) 21:24, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
I'm honestly pretty surprised at how much I expanded it as well, especially in just 24 hours. I'm also really glad to have had @Epicgenius helping, everyone else helping out with Americanising everything and yourself for archiving everything and reviewing the page so quickly. Thanks @Queen of Hearts as well for doing the honours of moving it to mainspace, couldn't think of anyone else that I'd rather to do it.
It's been a long 24 hours, but more than well worth it for Vami. With those archives it'll hopefully live on forever in their memory. CommissarDoggoTalk? 21:34, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

My Trouts

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

Oh god I definitely deserved that... CommissarDoggoTalk? 19:08, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Common Name
This particular trout was due to this wonderful mistake in the Teahouse, where I posed the same question in two different channels of the Wikipedia Discord, then wrote out four paragraphs on the Teahouse requesting an answer for the question. In those four paragraphs, I used the words "common name" exactly three times.
