From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am a long time Wikipedia fan, and former member.

Previously I gave up wikipedia because of various reasons. The lack of professionalism & objectivity, petty infighting, vandalism, and the wrong priorities. Too many liberals live at wikipedia, just like they do in academia.

Recently I decided to edit a few pages, so I created this new account, in an effort to start from scratch.

I have a problem with wikipedia's lack of accuracy, especially considering its popularity. I feel this is dangerous, and can lead people to be misinformed. I also have a problem with people who believe that the mob rule / open source method is clearly superior. I have a background in computer software, so I understand the open source movement which spawned wikipedia. I also understand that wikipedia is banned from use as a reference by many college professors because of it's poor quality in certain areas. I know the poor quality of SOME open source software. Therefore I operate with the conclusion that neither open source or wikipedia is "superior".

If you are a young and ignorant liberal with a strong opinion about how the world should be, wikipedia is not intended as your playground to distort reality.

I am a realist, and I hold this view to be correct for an encyclopedia.

The world is what it is, and we are simply intelligent animals, and history proves it. Accept it, and move on.
